About us
At Halfords, our mission is to inspire and support a lifetime of motoring and
cycling. As a specialist retailer, we lead the market through customer-driven
innovation and a distinct product range. We are dedicated to providing our
customers with an integrated, unique, and convenient service experience—from
e-bike and electric vehicle servicing to on-demand solutions. Our commitment is
to foster customer loyalty by offering compelling reasons to keep coming back to
our stores, ensuring a lifetime of motoring and cycling enjoyment.
Halfords is quickly becoming a digital services business. In addition to being a
leading UK retailer, Halfords has now developed a market leading field service
management platform that enables businesses to deliver their complex services to
customers through an end-to-end digital solution. The platform is deployed
throughout Halfords stores, garages and their mobile business. The platform has
now been taken to market to enable other businesses in our sector and other
industries globally to deliver market leading service delivery and an unrivalled
customer experience. This SaaS division is called Avayler (Avayler.com).
As the leading global Garage Management and Mobile Van software platform, we
help customers become operationally efficient and compliant through our advanced
technology. We were born in 2020 and whilst we are a division of Halfords, the
No 1 provider of motoring and cycling products, we are a stand-alone entity.
At Avayler, we truly are striving to become a global company, targeting both the
USA and European markets and we are scaling our business at a pace, so if you’re
willing to get stuck in, you’ll love it here too. So put yourself at the heart
of a dynamic, fast-paced working environment where expertise and focus take
people far.

The role
As a Senior Front End Engineer, you'll work within one of our product-focused
teams, building the API-driven web and mobile applications that sit at the heart
of our customer-facing services. The focus here is firmly on the front end, and
you'll be expected to bring real depth in React and TypeScript, delivering
polished, production-quality user experiences as a core part of how the squad
ships product.
You'll work iteratively within a close-knit team, contributing across the full
software delivery lifecycle with a genuine emphasis on quality. Writing standout
unit and integration tests is treated as part of the job rather than optional,
and you'll be encouraged to think about reusability and long-term
maintainability as much as the feature you're currently building.
This is a solid environment for a front end engineer who takes pride in their
craft, wants to work within a squad that moves at pace, and is motivated by
solving real product problems rather than just closing tickets. There are also
communities of engineers across the business to tap into, so if you're keen to
keep developing your skills and contribute to how technology is used more
broadly, there's plenty of opportunity to do that.
Key responsibilities
* Build high-quality front-end components within a product-focused squad,
delivering polished user experiences across web and mobile applications
* Write standout unit and integration tests as a standard part of how you work,
ensuring quality is built in rather than bolted on
* Engineer with reusability and long-term maintainability in mind, contributing
to shared components that help the squad move faster on future work
* Consume RESTful APIs effectively, ensuring front-end integrations are robust
and well-structured
* Contribute to all aspects of the iterative software delivery lifecycle,
including helping to shape approaches that improve quality and efficiency
across the squad
* Collaborate proactively on both technical and product challenges, working
alongside your squad to find the right solution
* Engage with internal engineering communities to share knowledge, grow your
skills, and contribute to how the wider team uses technology
About you
* Strong commercial experience with React, React Native and TypeScript, with
the ability to deliver production-quality front-end work to a high standard
* Solid experience writing unit and integration tests for front-end
applications, using tools such as Jest, React Testing Library, or Cypress
* Good understanding of RESTful APIs and how to consume them effectively within
a front-end context
* Familiar with agile ways of working and comfortable contributing meaningfully
within a squad-based delivery model
* A proactive problem solver who takes ownership of challenges and works
collaboratively to resolve them
* Keen to keep developing your skills and contribute to a wider engineering
community, not just deliver within your squad
Reward & benefits
* A fair and competitive salary evaluated against market data, annual
discretionary bonus scheme, pension, life assurance, 25 days annual leave
plus bank holidays and enhanced family leave.
* Commitment and dedication to your ongoing personal and professional
development. We help you to own and grow your potential so you can be at your
best in your current role and to support your future career aspirations.
* You will have access to a wealth of employee discounts across the Halfords
suite of products and services.
* Wellbeing and inclusion are at the heart of our colleague experience. We
offer resources and ongoing support to enhance your wellbeing at work and
active Colleague Networks supporting inclusion initiatives across Halfords.
Not sure you meet all the criteria? We'd encourage you to take the wheel and
apply anyway! At Halfords we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace
for our colleagues. We're an equal opportunities employer and proud to welcome
applications from all backgrounds and embrace diversity within our one Halfords
Family.
