InnoVet Health is an innovative and rapidly growing small business providing health IT services to U.S. federal government agencies, particularly the Department of Veteran Affairs. innoVet Health is looking to hire a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join our team. As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you will take technical ownership of complex features and systems spanning both frontend and backend for VA.gov and other high-impact federal services that millions of Veterans and their families rely on every day. You will lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and high-performance applications, collaborating with product managers, UX designers, and cross-functional engineering teams. You will guide technical decisions, and ensure the delivery of maintainable, accessible, and performant software in a compliance-conscious environment.

Responsibilities:
- Architect, design, and maintain features across backend APIs and frontend interfaces for large-scale federal platforms.
- Lead development efforts using backend frameworks (Ruby on Rails or similar) and modern JavaScript frameworks (React preferred).
- Integrate with and optimize external APIs and backend systems, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance.
- Build UI components that meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 and Section 508 accessibility standards, delivering exceptional user experiences.
- Drive performance optimization across the full stack for high-traffic, public-facing services.
- Champion best practices for code quality, security, and maintainability.
- Facilitate architecture reviews, provide technical guidance, and mentor other engineers.
- Collaborate with DevOps, SRE, and QA teams to ensure smooth deployments and production reliability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or a related field.
- 7+ years of professional full stack development experience, including leadership in technical decision-making.
- Expert-level proficiency with at least one backend framework (Ruby on Rails preferred) and one frontend framework (React preferred).
- Deep experience designing and consuming RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs.
- Strong background with relational databases (PostgreSQL or similar), data modeling, and query optimization.
- Proven track record of applying accessibility standards in production systems.
- Familiarity with Git, CI/CD workflows, and Agile methodologies.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working on VA.gov or in other regulated or federal environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Docker, Ansible).
- Expertise in automated testing at multiple levels (unit, integration, end-to-end).
- Performance tuning and optimization expertise for high-traffic, mission-critical systems.
