What you'll do: Design and implement scalable applications using modern web application frameworks (e.g., Rails, React, NestJS, NextJS). Drive technology initiatives that empower and uplift the platform that 8am’s products are built on. (e.g., Common Identity, Single Sign-On) Define, implement, and evolve a backend architecture that enables scalable, sustainable business growth Proactively identify and implement solutions to enhance application performance, scalability, and maintainability. Partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders to gather requirements, propose solutions, and align with business goals. Collaborate with product teams to assess trade-offs, identify risks, and align improvements with business objectives. Mentor and coach software engineers, fostering professional growth within the team. Provide guidance and expertise in software architecture, design patterns, and best practices to the broader engineering organization. Lead team ceremonies, including sprint planning, grooming, and retrospectives, ensuring effective communication and coordination. Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to bring innovation to the team. About you: BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience. 10+ years of experience designing, implementing, and debugging large-scale, distributed cloud-based solutions. Experience with Lean product development and Agile frameworks (e.g., Scrum, Kanban). Work effectively with LLM’s, understand agent concepts and related technologies (e.g. MCP servers) Strong understanding of SOLID design principles and software design patterns. Strong understanding of SQL, and familiarity with relational databases such as Postgres or MySQL Excellent teamwork, documentation, and communication skills. Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to improve workflows, enhance decision-making, or drive innovation. Nice to have: Experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems. Experience designing and building standards-based authentication and authorization systems (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML). Experience designing and building scalable APIs. Experience with asynchronous messaging platforms like Kafka and AWS SQS. Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud Platform). Experience with Ruby on Rails (or equivalent), NodeJS and NextJS. Experience with React, Bootstrap, Tailwind, and modern frontend technologies. Experience deploying applications with Kubernetes. Additional Information The annual salary range for this position is $130,000 to $170,000. The salary range for performing this role outside of the US / Austin / California may differ. 8am is committed to offering competitive, fair and commensurate compensation and has provided an estimated pay range for this role.
