This role is ideal for engineers who have experience in small teams or early-stage product setups and enjoy taking complete responsibility for complex technical problems. You will work closely with a deeply technical team to build systems that power next-generation RL environments and agent-driven development workflows. Key Qualifications Startup / Small-Team Experience: Prior experience in companies with fewer than 100 employees, where you operated with significant ownership (founding engineer, early IC, or tech lead). Strong Expertise in One Primary Stack: Proficiency in TypeScript, Python, Go, or Java, with a strong preference for candidates experienced in TypeScript, especially for backend development. Engineering Background: Experience as a product engineer, platform engineer, or ML-focused engineer. (We are not seeking candidates whose primary scope is CI/CD, infrastructure engineering, or pure data science.) Backend Excellence: Deep understanding of backend architecture, systems design, testing, and API development. Frontend experience is valuable but not mandatory. Strong Problem-Solving Ability: Capable of independently solving complex engineering problems without relying on AI tools, while still able to use modern AI systems efficiently to accelerate workflows. What You Will Do Build Cutting-Edge RL Environments: Develop complex RL environments and sandbox systems used by top LLM teams to train coding agents. Rapid Codebase Onboarding: Switch between new codebases every 1–1.5 months, quickly understand architectures, and design RL tasks aligned with each environment. Design Evaluation Systems: Build engineering challenges, task frameworks, scoring mechanisms, test suites, and mock infrastructure. Full-Stack Contribution: Work across backend, testing, mocks, task evaluation, and light frontend when required. Navigate infrastructure components as needed to support environment functionality. Internal Tooling & Automation: Build internal tools and agent-driven systems that accelerate RL environment development and testing.
