Our Calgary office is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer specializing in the application of geotechnical engineering on linear infrastructure projects, with a specific focus on pipelines and geohazards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and leadership on projects and for staff, including conducting technical reviews of calculations and analyses, as well as performing technical analyses where appropriate;
  • Provide guidance, and where necessary, support in coordination, preparation of cost estimates, tender submissions, technical documentation, client reports, progress reports, project scheduling / resourcing, and meeting deadlines and budgets on projects;
  • Scoping projects and assisting in the preparation of proposals;
  • Supporting mentoring, coaching and training of staff;
  • Work with the Branch Manager in the development of new business opportunities;
  • Establishing, developing, promoting and maintaining relationships with clients;
  • Active participation in the field on a project specific basis as dictated by the needs of the project to meet client expectations and project objectives; and,
  • Manage projects and lead multidisciplinary teams.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of a post-secondary program in Civil or Geological Engineering;
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in the Geotechnical or Geological Engineering field. Local Canadian experience strongly preferred;
  • Class 5 Drivers license;
  • Comfortable driving mid to full-sized pickup trucks in urban, rural, and construction environments;
  • Comfortable working in a variety of environments, including local and remote construction sites;
  • Proficiency with spoken and written English language is required; and,
  • Eligible for membership with APEGA.

DESIRABLE SKILLS

  • Graduate Degree (Masters or higher) preferred;
  • Geohazard assessment;
  • Terrain analysis;
  • Slope stability analysis;
  • Pipeline routing and trenchless crossing assessments;
  • Geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong computer skills (i.e. spreadsheet and word-processing); and,
  • Ability to work independently and cooperate with a team in various environment.
