GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual to be a member of the State Auditor’s Office (SAO) Risk Assessment Team. This role is responsible for performing research and analysis in an assigned policy area and developing project proposals in support of the SAO’s annual audit plan. Additionally, the role entails participating in the SAO’s legislative processes and managing discrete projects throughout the year. The ideal candidate can be successful working under minimal supervision and is comfortable exercising independent judgment and managing multiple priorities simultaneously.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in government, political science, public policy, public administration, social sciences, economics, business administration, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus).
  • Experience in policy analysis, government, auditing, program evaluation, project management, or other relevant professional experience. Understanding of the legislative process is a plus.
  • Four years of relevant experience. Related graduate level education may be substituted for work experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of risk assessment processes.
  • Knowledge of legislative process and Texas state government operations, including Texas state statutes and Texas Administrative Code.
  • Skill in project management, research, and data analysis.
  • Advanced skill in written and oral communication; and writing clear and concise analysis, summaries, and memos that synthesize a variety of qualitative and quantitative information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, manage multiple work assignments, meet project deadlines, and maintain sensitive information.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and exercise considerable latitude in carrying out responsibilities.
