REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrate excellent design, typographic, and visual communication ability (portfolio review required—send access with application).
  • Ability to communicate ideas visually and verbally with great attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow Purdue for Life Foundation and Purdue University visual branding guidelines.
  • Thorough understanding of design and printing processes.
  • Professional competency with Adobe Creative Suite with an emphasis on InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, and Illustrator, and a working knowledge of Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Dimension.
  • Strong computer skills; working knowledge of MacOS, MS Office, and other similar software.
  • Solid problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to proofread and understand standard proofing marks.
  • Ability to manage several projects concurrently, prioritize assignments to meet deadlines, and adapt quickly to changing priorities while working in a fast-paced team and client-driven environment.
  • Ability to analyze and organize groups of information in a comprehensive visual manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at different professional and experience levels.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND BENEFITS SUMMARY

  • Bachelor’s degree required in visual communications design, graphic design, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a visual design profession
  • Experience in a higher education or an in-house marketing/design department/agency a plus

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work collaboratively and collegially with Purdue for Life Foundation colleagues to complete projects on brand, on time, error free, and with high quality, in cooperation with marcom teammates, direct supervisor, and executive creative director.
  • Collaborate with marcom colleagues from all departments to develop cohesive marketing plans and prioritize high-level, multi-task projects (including but not limited to: Purdue for Life Foundation, President’s Council, John Purdue Club, and Purdue Alumni Association) and mentor other designers as needed to accomplish successful projects.
  • Apply creative strategy and expert-level design to marketing materials from concept to completion, including but not limited to: print collateral (with variable data); digital art with variable data (social media, presentation software, email/web banners, online interactive publications); environmental graphics; promotional items; direct mail pieces; and special event materials.
  • Manage the production of communication pieces with vendors from gathering print estimates, to proofing, and delivery method, and develop relationships with external vendors to ensure on-time completion of quality deliverables within budget.
  • Provide art direction to photographers; assist onsite at photo shoots and video production.
  • Edit photography according to university and Purdue for Life Foundation brand guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain production timelines and provide timely communications with teammates.
  • Collaborate and contribute to the design process through participation in cross-team creative discussion, provide input on execution, deliver clear and compelling presentations as needed, and seek inspiration and professional growth through research of design trends and creative software advancements.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist other Purdue for Life Foundation designers as needed.
  • Work in cooperation with Purdue Brand Studio, trademarks and licensing, and freelancers as needed.
  • Collaborate with marcom colleagues to ensure all work produced follows Purdue for Life Foundation and Purdue University brand guidelines as well as ADA guidelines.
  • Attend and participate in Purdue for Life Foundation sponsored programs and events as needed.
  • Where applicable, incorporate AI tools to streamline workflows and enhance marketing efforts.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
