SUMMARY The Senior Health and Safety Sepcialist, Construction supports the implementation, monitoring and improving of the Health, Safety and Environment program, processes and activities in maintaining compliance, mitigating and managing health, safety, environmental and security-related risks and improving our ‘Safety Always’ Culture.  Works closely with BGIS Project Management team and Operations teams while providing governance and oversight of construction activities.   KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Health & Safety Construction Project Support * Working within the National Capital Region (NCR) with most of the work at construction sites in Gatineau.      Bilingual preferred. * Conduct Project inspections to ensure compliance with regulation and BGIS internal processes/procedures. * Conduct HSE Incident Investigations alongside the Project Team. * Support the Project team to complete HSE start up requirements including proper Notices, Project Specific Health and Safety plans, compliance documents and monitoring throughout the course of the project. * Project HSE site inspections. * Evaluation of sub-contractors HSE plans for compliance. * Works to ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and fulfillment of contractual environmental, health and safety requirements. * Assists in the investigation and resolution of incidents including root-cause analysis and providing probable causes of incidents and recommendations for resolution. * Assists in the identification and analysis of trends. Communicates observations and provides suggestions for incident reduction measures. * Take a team approach to implementing a Safety Always culture.  Audit Compliance, Data Maintenance & Reporting * Maintains all environmental, health, safety and security-related data including but not limited to incident data, compliance data within applicable databases and all other types of information storage systems. * Assists in the audit of compliance records and all other environmental, health, safety and security data. * Prepares and distributes various environmental, health, safety and security-related reports.   KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS * College degree or equivalent experience. * Certification in one or more of the following – Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, Certificate in Environmental Management through a Community College; or University degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences. * Over 3 years of health and safety, and environmental work experience in General Construction/Construction Management. * Understand or demonstrate the ability to learn and become an expert in the Quebec Health and Safety Laws and Regulations  * Understand or demonstrate the ability to learn and become an expert in the Ontario Health and Safety Laws and Regulations  * Understand or demonstrate the ability to learn in other provincial HSE Laws and Regulations    Understanding of environmental, health and safety regulatory requirements    Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation One of these below as an asset: * Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) from board * Project Management Professional (PMP) * National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) * COR Auditor * Certified Safety Professional (CSP) * CNESST Training for Health and Safety Rep Security clearance: * Ability to pass security clearance requirements depending on the clients   This is a regular, full-time position with a salary range of $82,432 - $103,040 per annum. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to experience, education and performance related to this role.
