OVERVIEW

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Safety Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs that ensure compliance with local and government regulations. You will play a crucial role in fostering a culture of safety within the organization, working closely with various departments to identify hazards and mitigate risks. Your expertise will be vital in training employees on safety protocols and best practices.

EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Recognized safety certification (e.g., CRSP, CHSC, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 10–15 years of progressive experience in health and safety within an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Proven field experience in high-risk operational settings.
  • Strong knowledge of OHSA and applicable regulations in Ontario.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in team environments.
  • Proficient in incident investigation, hazard analysis, and safety reporting tools.
  • Experience in unionized environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISO 45001 or similar safety management systems preferred

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety programs in compliance with OHSA and internal standards.
  • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses; recommend and implement preventive measures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety into all operational processes.
  • Facilitate Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings and ensure follow-up on action items.
  • Identify and deliver safety training programs for all levels of staff.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety metrics, training, incidents, and inspections.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in legislation and industry best practices; update policies and procedures accordingly.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor to junior safety staff and operational leaders
