Description

We are looking for a highly motivated, compassionate and caring individual to join our multidisciplinary team at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust based in the Breast Radiology Department.
As a Senior HCA, you will be a hugely valuable in supporting our nursing team providing care to our patients.
The department provides a service for women attending the South East London NHS Breast Screening Programme and a breast symptomatic diagnostic imaging service for patients referred from the Breast Care Unit and external hospitals. The unit performs ultrasound, mammograms (breast X-ray), breast biopsies under ultrasound and x-ray guidance and pre-operative procedures for patients undergoing cancer treatment.
Note: Advert will be closed early if we receive significant number of applications.
The clinical role is working closely with the Breast Radiologists and nursing team assisting with breast biopsy procedures.
Setting up biopsy equipment (following appropriate training and assessment of competence).
Assisting with procedures.
Basic wound care.
Supporting potentially anxious/worried patients throughout the biopsy and advising on post biopsy after care.
Manage and maintain stock levels and general administrative duties.

  • To prepare the clinical areas, ensuring equipment is functioning and clean for effective infection control practices.
  • To liaise with reception staff and the Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) with regards to patient welfare in relation to waiting times and any specific patient concerns.
  • During examinations, ensure all measures are taken to maintain patient comfort, privacy and dignity.
  • To set up a dressing trolley for the procedure using aseptic non-touch technique (ANTT) skills.
  • To assist the radiologist with advanced radiological procedures including, X-ray guided Vacuum assisted stereotactic biopsy, needle localisation biopsy and vacuum excision.
  • To assist the radiologist with pre-operative marker insertions and breast localisation procedures.
  • To ensure safe handling of the biopsy specimen is adhered to at all times.
  • To be responsible for the monthly maintenance of the filter cleaning of the ultrasound machines.
  • To assist in maintaining a clean and safe clinical environment.
  • To initiate contact with medirest when additional specimen collections are necessary.
