We are looking for a proactive and highly organised HR practitioner who is passionate about all aspects of HR and enjoys working within a varied role where no two days are the same. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage conflicting deadlines and priorities. Previous experience of working at HR Officer or Adviser level within the not-for-profit sector along with sound administrative skills and strong attention to detail is essential. Demonstrable experience of supporting workplace consultation processes and continuous improvement of HR policies, systems and processes is also vital for this role.

Responsibilities

As an integral part of our People and Culture team, the Senior HR Officer will be responsible for supporting the delivery of a proactive, effective and responsive HR generalist service across Think Ahead. We have a diverse workforce of 40 employees and a key part of the role will also involve supporting the Head of People and Culture with providing first line HR advice and guidance to staff, managers and senior leaders on all HR policies, practices and processes, covering the full employee life cycle. This includes responding effectively to employee queries sent to our People Team mailbox and supporting effective resolution of employee relations matters whilst balancing cost and risk effectively.
Other key areas of responsibility for the Senior HR Officer include recommending HR process improvements, preparing HR data reports, policy development, maintaining and updating our HR system (BreatheHR), supporting change management processes and workplace consultations in line with best practice HR. The post holder will also be expected to provide cover for HR management support in the absence of the Head of People and Culture.
Our People and Culture team form part of the Finance and Operations directorate. As a team, we support all people and culture activities through partnership with Think Ahead’s Trustees, Senior Leadership Team (SLT), ED&I Action Group, Lived Experience Partners, line managers and employees. We strive to continuously improve the level of service we provide our employees and maximise the value of our resources to promote positive employee well-being and enable a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive working environment.
The Senior HR Officer will be expected to work collaboratively and effectively at all levels of the organisation. This includes working closely with our Finance and Operations team members to ensure the smooth running of monthly payroll preparation, workplace health and safety compliance processes and the planning of all staff away days which are currently held twice a year.
