Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Senior HST Specialist is responsible for the ongoing compliance with health, safety, training, and risk management obligations at Wambo Complex site. The role provides direct operational support, leads safety initiatives, manages site-wide training and competency systems, supports return-to-work processes, and maintains HST systems and document control.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Lead site-level safety initiatives, campaigns, and compliance activities.
  • Conduct and document incident investigations, including ICAMs.
  • Facilitate WHS committees and safety-related communications.
  • Conduct risk assessments, safety inspections, and audits.
  • Monitor SHMS implementation and update risk registers.
  • Coordinate health monitoring programs (e.g., respirable dust, silica, noise and other contaminants).
  • Support emergency response planning, drills, and resources.
  • Ensure timely and accurate HST reporting (KPIs, metrics, incident stats).
  • Lead or support mental health, well-being, and safety culture initiatives.
  • Manage the site’s Training Management System (Pegasus).
  • Conduct training needs analysis and manage site induction programs.
  • Maintain accurate and current training records, assessments, and refresher tracking.
  • Support compliance with training (Order 34, Maintenance of Competency).
  • Coordinate on-site and external training delivery.
  • Conduct internal audits against the Training Management Plan.
  • Administer HST systems: SAP EHS, SharePoint, Onsite TrackEasy.
  • Troubleshoot access issues, coach users, and provide training for system functionality.
  • Maintain the site’s document control system in line with Peabody standards.
  • Ensure electronic and hard copy HST documents are stored, secured, and version controlled.
  • Monitor and complete system and document control audits.
  • Support continuous improvement in contractor management and data integrity.
  • Support injury management, early intervention, and return-to-work coordination.
  • Liaise with Coal Mines Insurance and health professionals to manage active cases.
  • Facilitate site health programs (e.g., flu vaccinations, physio, skin checks).
  • Contribute to site and corporate HST reporting requirements.
  • Assist in HST budget preparation and cost tracking.
  • Support HST input to site projects, regulatory reviews, and audits.
