Job Description Position Summary: The Senior Technician will support advanced research and development efforts in the ATL, focusing on HVAC systems for residential and light commercial markets. This role involves executing complex and non-standard, research-oriented test programs, supporting prototype development, test setup, data collection, and operational improvements in a climate-controlled laboratory environment. Key Responsibilities: Experimental Testing & Technical Execution Lead and execute non-standard, research experiments to evaluate HVAC components and systems. Prepare, install, modify test setups, and collect test data for unique test scenarios. Conduct airflow testing using precision instrumentation and established procedures. Check test data for accuracy and collaborate with engineers to refine experimental procedures. Operate and maintain data acquisition systems, including LabVIEW-based setups. Lab Operations & Support Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment. Provide support to engineering staff for daily lab operations, including equipment handling, component tracking, and test documentation. Develop and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and project documentation. Proactively collaborate with model shop, calibration, lab support, and DAQ teams. Hands-On Fabrication & Instrumentation Perform sheet metal fabrication, brazing, and mechanical assembly for prototype units. Utilize instrumentation such as thermocouples, pressure gauges, flowmeters, and tachometers. Assist in calibration and maintenance of lab instruments and measurement systems. Collaboration & Process Improvement Identify and implement operational improvements to enhance lab efficiency and effectiveness. Take initiative to improve lab systems and processes. Qualifications Required: Associate degree or equivalent technical training in HVAC or related field. Hands-on skills in sheet metal fabrication, brazing, and LabVIEW. Minimum 5 years of experience in an engineering lab environment. Understanding of HVAC systems and components. Proficiency in reading wiring diagrams, modifying controls, and electromechanical troubleshooting. Experience with instrumentation: thermocouples, pressure gauges, flowmeters, tachometers. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with ASHRAE and AHRI standards.
