JOB DESCRIPTION:

Blizzard Entertainment is seeking an experienced and highly skilled individual for our Worldbuilding Team on World of Warcraft. This position will collaborate with the Art and Design teams to build Azeroth itself, the highly immersive beautiful world that is one of the most important characters of our game.
This position will involve the creative design, artistic and technical implementation of our outdoor world zones, dungeons, raids, arenas, battlegrounds and more. The ideal candidate has a mastery of level design, technical and artistic skills with a strong sense of composition and visual aesthetic. They will be required to sculpt and form 3D terrain, while also being able to integrate the core gameplay experience and visual storytelling for our players.
In addition, we expect candidates to have great communication skills, boundless creativity, knowledge of World of Warcraft and a longstanding passion for playing games.
This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The potential home studio is Irvine, CA.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 8+ years’ experience as a Level designer / World Builder
  • Portfolio of work demonstrating strong proficiency as an Environment Artist and/or Level Designer
  • Strong sense of level design, scale, pacing, and gameplay flow
  • Excellent composition skills
  • Excellent understanding of environmental design and its functions within a game
  • Strong understanding of lighting, mood, and color
  • Ability to work closely with and collaborate with other teams
  • Experience with any proprietary terrain sculpting tool is a plus
  • MMO experience a plus
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Art Directors and Leads, Designers, and Artists to successfully support WoW zone flow, navigation, visual storytelling, and questing experiences.
  • Help build our epic world with your environmental composition, terrain sculpting and painting, asset placement, and lighting skills
  • Own the creation of levels from blockout and vertical slice demos through final polish
  • Optimize your content so it can be enjoyed by as many players as possible, within agreed-upon production schedules and with minimal direction.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Participate in receiving, giving and incorporating critical feedback on the project’s Worldbuilding direction including aesthetic and gamplay vision
  • Closely follow and adhere to art direction and design concepts,
  • Have a deep understanding of development pipelines and art integration into the game.
  • Contribute to the creative process through original ideas and inspiration.
  • Be a patient mentor that provides actionable, professional feedback and guidance to fellow Worldbuilders
  • Champion a creative and collaborative culture of inclusion and diversity
