Based within the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA), a partnership between the University of Tasmania and the Tasmanian Government, the role supports the advancement of Tasmania’s agrifood sectors through applied science, innovation, and strong industry collaboration. Working closely with research teams, the position translates research outputs into practical extension activities that incorporate market intelligence, value-adding technologies, and contemporary approaches to influence industry practices, improve adoption of innovations, and enhance resilience and performance. The role also communicates progress and outcomes through multiple channels to keep stakeholders across industry, government, and academia informed and engaged, while building strong networks that foster collaboration and active participation. What you’ll do: * Apply specialist knowledge of the livestock sector to identify emerging industry needs, risks, and opportunities, and translate these into practical extension activities, adoption pathways, and project initiatives that support productivity, sustainability, and innovation. * Develop and deliver clear, targeted communication and extension materials across a range of platforms. * Maintain effective relationships through engagement and collaboration with producers, industry organisations, government agencies, and research partners at state and national levels to support the delivery of industry-informed activities. * Monitor and evaluate activities, adoption outcomes and stakeholder engagement, using insights to continuously improve extension approaches, demonstrate impact, and inform future program development. * Contribute to the identification and development of funding opportunities, including supporting grant applications and project proposals, and ensuring compliance with organisational policies, funding requirements, and governance processes. ­What we’re looking for: * Sound knowledge of principles of agricultural science, especially an understanding of and experience in dairy farming systems and dairy cattle nutrition. * Knowledge and experience of the development and delivery of extension activities and technologies. * A well-developed understanding of pasture agronomy and grazing management. * Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team as well as experience engaging and collaborating with stakeholders. * Good organisational and record keeping skills and well-developed written and oral communication skills. Salary details Appointment to this role will be at HEO 7 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $130,943 comprising base salary within the range of $101,821 to $111,917 pro rata plus 17% superannuation.
