Are you an experienced professional in information governance and data protection?
We are seeking a Senior Information Governance Officer (Data Protection) to join the Governance and Compliance team within Legal and Civic Services, contributing to Belfast City Council’s compliance and standards in data protection and access to information.

AND AT LEAST ONE YEAR OF RELEVANT EXPERIENCE IN ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • Advising senior managers on data protection compliance.
  • Designing and delivering training in data protection.
  • Developing and updating corporate policies and public guidance on data protection.

OR

  • At least two years of relevant experience in the three areas listed above.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018, the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), and related legislation.
  • Manage and respond to subject access requests in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Provide expert advice to directors and officers on all data protection matters.
  • Design and deliver data protection training and communications to staff and elected members.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of data protection developments and update corporate policies accordingly.
  • Assist in legislative review and its organisational impact.
  • Draft, review and update internal and public guidance on data protection.
  • Contribute to the council’s registration with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
  • Ensure appropriate privacy notices are included in all relevant council materials.
  • Handle sensitive and complex data protection issues with professionalism.
  • Maintain the corporate personal data register and advise on data sharing arrangements.
  • Draft and manage information sharing protocols and agreements.
  • Investigate and report on data breaches, identifying trends and recommending improvements.
  • Support Data Protection Impact Assessments and ensure associated risks are mitigated.
  • Conduct data protection compliance audits and produce reports for senior management.
  • Monitor policy implementation and prepare analysis reports.
  • Support the processing of Freedom of Information and Environmental Information Regulations requests.
  • Provide high-level advice to Chief Officers on compliance issues.
  • Identify legislative changes and reflect them in policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a library of resources including procedures, guidance, and training materials.
  • Produce compliance statistics and reports for Senior Management.
  • Develop and implement a corporate CCTV Policy and associated action plan.
