COMPANY DESCRIPTION

Mission is located on the unceded, ancestral, and shared territory of the Stó:lō Peoples, specifically on Leq’á:mel, Semá:th, Máthexwi, Kwantlen, Sq’éwlets, and Katzie traditional territories in the lower mainland of BC. Nestled on the southern coastal mountain slopes overlooking the lush Fraser River Valley, Mission is a rapidly growing and dynamic community of approximately 41,500 residents, 20 kilometers north of the US border and 70 kilometers east of Vancouver. Although Mission is part of a broader metropolitan area, it still maintains its distinct and welcoming small-town flavor.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The City of Mission is looking for an experienced Senior Infrastructure Planning Engineer to help shape the future of our community. This is a key leadership role within the Engineering & Public Works Department, responsible for providing technical direction and oversight in the ongoing and long-term planning and development of the City’s municipal infrastructure, with a primary focus on utilities including water, sanitary sewer, and drainage systems. The successful candidate will play an integral role in ensuring that infrastructure planning aligns with the City’s strategic objectives, growth projections, and regulatory requirements.
Reporting to the Manager of Engineering Planning & Assets, the Senior Infrastructure Planning Engineer will provide technical leadership for infrastructure planning and capital projects. You will collaborate closely with City staff, consultants, developers, and stakeholders to ensure current and long-term projects align with our Official Community Plan and local area plans. You will also oversee and mentor technical staff in the Engineering division, review engineering designs and reports for compliance with City standards, and develop and manage capital and operating budgets. Your responsibilities will include preparing funding applications, administering contracts, and representing the City in meetings, negotiations, and public presentations.

QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline, along with supplementary training in finance and project management. You will have at least five years of progressive municipal civil engineering and project management experience, supported by a strong knowledge of utility and transportation engineering principles, municipal budgeting, and relevant legislation. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills are essential. You must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or Professional Licensee (P.L.Eng) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, or be eligible for immediate registration, and hold a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License.
