POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Inspector, Building in Preventative Inspections team is responsible for undertaking building inspections and audits informed by operational intelligence to drive and ensure suitable levels of practitioner compliance with relevant building legislation, codes and Australian Standards, and the monitoring and enforcement of industry and practitioner performance in meeting compliance obligations.
The Senior Inspector, Building will respond to consumer complaints, conduct site visits, inspections and audits of building work (pre and post occupancy), conduct low risk inspections of class 2 buildings and exercise statutory powers in line with VBA policies and guidelines.
The role will function as the senior peer for the unit, mentor and coach other team members, providing development and shadowing opportunities to support the cross-skilling of the team members that are part of each small response unit.

What we are looking for:

  • Proven experience of the building and/or plumbing industry and an advanced knowledge of the Building and Plumbing Regulations 2018, regulatory frameworks, codes, regulation standards and Government Policy in Victoria and/or other Australian jurisdictions, including experience in the practical application of relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in conducting site inspections and audits in a regulatory environment on all Classes of commercial and domestic buildings including commercial buildings above 2000m2 and/or demonstrated experience in the management of field-based or technical services teams within a building or plumbing regulatory environment and/or demonstrated experience in compliance and enforcement operations (investigations/surveillance operations).
  • Current Victorian registration as a Building Inspector (unlimited) held for a minimum 3 years
  • Deals with concepts and complexity comfortably; uses analytical and conceptual skills to reason through problems; has creative ideas and can project how these can link to innovations.
  • Actively seeks to improve others’ skills and talents by providing constructive feedback, coaching and training opportunities; empowers others by investing them with the authority and latitude to accomplish tasks; appropriately delegates responsibilities to further the development of others.
