Waddow Hall is a historic, 178-acre estate and Grade II listed building located in the Ribble Valley near Clitheroe, Lancashire. It was previously owned and managed by Girlguiding UK and served as a training and activity centre. It is due to reopen later in the year to provide hospitality, activity breaks and outdoor pursuits for children. Once reopened it will provide Hiking, Canoeing, Archery, camping excursions, various sports activities, all involving over night stays.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS -:
Minimum of 2 years’ experience instructing in an outdoor education or residential activity setting
Recognised qualifications in at least two outdoor activities (e.g., climbing, paddle sports, archery, etc.)
Strong leadership skills and a natural ability to motivate others
Sound knowledge of safeguarding and risk management procedures
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
First Aid qualification (ideally Outdoor First Aid or equivalent)
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to undergo one)
THE ROLE -: SENIOR INSTRUCTOR
As Senior Instructor at Waddow Hall, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering outstanding activity sessions while supporting the development, safety, and morale of the instructor team. Acting as a mentor and leader, you’ll ensure activities are fun, engaging, and delivered to the highest standards of safety and professionalism. As the centre has been closed since 2023 you will be required to play a key role in recommissioning all the activity structures and equipment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES -:
Lead and deliver high-quality activity sessions across a range of land and/or water-based disciplines
Support the Activity Manager with daily operations, session planning, and staff supervision
Act as the designated senior point of contact on shift in the absence of the Activity Manager
Mentor and train junior instructors and apprentices, including signing off competencies
Uphold and enforce all health and safety procedures, risk assessments, and safeguarding policies
Conduct and record equipment checks and ensure proper maintenance and storage
Assist with activity rota planning and contribute to staff scheduling
Support behaviour management and pastoral care of visiting groups where required
Contribute to ongoing improvements in programme delivery and customer experience
Attend senior team meetings and contribute to strategic planning for centre development
