About Park City Sailing Association Park City Sailing Association (PCSA) is a vibrant, community-focused sailing program dedicated to cultivating a diverse and welcoming community of sailors in Utah. We provide enriching experiences for sailors of all ages and backgrounds through outreach, boat access, racing, social events, and educational opportunities using our well-maintained fleet and quality facilities at the stunning Jordanelle Reservoir. Nestled in Utah's mountain paradise, just a few minutes away from historic Park City old town, our programs emphasize skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun amid breathtaking scenery and year-round outdoor adventures. PCSA boasts an active sailing community with over 600 participants and 100 vessels. Our youth sailing school, led by Head Coach Christian Koules, serves more than 30 junior sailors, some competing in regional and national events. We're proud recipients of the 2024 US Sailing Outstanding Community Sailing Program award, the 2017 Robie Pierce Award for Adaptive Sailing. Position Overview PCSA is seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Instructor to lead one of our sailing school classes, focusing on teaching learn to sail and/or intro to race in high-performance dinghies (e.g. Pra)ms, RS Teras and FJs). The ideal candidate will have a proven youth sailing background, a passion for mentoring young athletes, and the skills to host positive, high-caliber sailing education with an emphasis on safety, fun, and learning. This seasonal role involves classroom, dry-land, and primarily on-the-water instruction on weekdays (all day, typically 9am-4pm), with opportunities to mentor junior coaches and contribute to program growth. The Sailing School summer session is June 1 to Aug 21. We offer competitive compensation starting at $3,800 per month (based on experience; negotiable for exceptional candidates). Responsibilities: 1. Safety & Risk Management Enforce all US Sailing safety standards and organizational safety protocols Conduct daily safety briefings and weather assessments Supervise sailors at all times while on the water and dock Operate safety boats in accordance with US Sailing best practices Maintain appropriate instructor-to-student ratios Document and report incidents in accordance with policy Ensure proper use and fit of PFDs and safety equipment 2. Instruction & Curriculum Delivery Deliver approved curriculum appropriate to age and skill level Teach basics of sailing, fundamental seamanship, boat handling, and basic racing skills Provide progressive skill development aligned with PCSA curriculum and US Sailing Small Boat Certifications Conduct land-based instruction on rules, knots, rigging, safety, and sportsmanship Assess and provide constructive feedback to sailors Track skill progression and recommend advancement levels 3. Program Leadership Serve as lead instructor for assigned youth sailing school sessions Mentor Assistant Instructors and Junior Instructors Model professionalism and positive coaching behavior Support daily rigging/de-rigging procedures Assist with regattas, skill assessments, and special events Support parent communication as directed by Program Director 4. Youth Development & Conduct Foster an inclusive, respectful, and sportsmanlike team culture Uphold US Sailing SafeSport standards and mandatory reporting requirements Promote teamwork, confidence, and leadership among participants Address behavioral issues constructively and consistently 5. Equipment & Facility Care Inspect boats, sails, and equipment daily Report maintenance issues promptly Maintain organized docks, storage, and rigging areas Assist in fleet rigging, de-rigging, and inventory management 6. Administrative Support Maintain accurate attendance and skill records Complete incident reports and evaluation forms Assist in preparation for accreditation reviews (if applicable) Participate in staff meetings and training sessions Physical Requirements Ability to lift 50 lbs Ability to operate small powerboats Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Ability to swim 200 yards comfortably Preferred Qualifications US Sailing Level 1 Instructor Certification US Sailing Race Coach Level 1 Prior experience teaching sailing in junior programs Experience working with kids and beginner sailors Plan and lead structured classroom and on-the-water instruction, incorporating basics of sailing, boat handling, seamanship, and sometimes basics of racing (tactics, strategy, starts, and race preparation.
