Job Summary
The Senior Instrumentation Engineer or Technologist (P.Eng. or P. Tech.) will provide instrumentation and control systems engineering support on a variety of projects/clients including modifications to existing facilities, conceptual design of improvement ideas, replacement of existing equipment and design and implementation of new capital projects. The pace of work is fast and changes from day to day, which requires an agile person who can manage and execute many activities simultaneously in a challenging environment. Education & Qualifications
- Graduate of a recognized university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Process Control Engineering or a recognized polytechnic with a Diploma in a related field.
- Registered as a P.Eng. with APEGA or P. Tech with ASET.
- Familiarity with relevant electrical codes (CSA, IEEE, API, ANSI, ISA, CEC).
- Familiarity with development of process and instrumentation diagrams, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, instrumentation layouts, instrument datasheets and other key design documents.
- Experience in Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI) including wiring modules.
- Experience with Hazardous Area Certifications including Intrinsically Safe System requirements.
- Familiarity with CAD design software is considered an asset.
- Experience with HAZOP, SIL, LOPA Studies is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Safety Integrity Level (SIL) and Safety Instrument Systems (SIS) is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Data Center and Refrigeration systems is considered an asset.
- Progressive EPC project management or project engineering experience in the oil and gas industry is considered an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs used to create reports and documents.
- Site/field based industrial work experience is considered an asset.
- Experience with proposal development and engineering cost estimates.
- Experience working with and mentoring junior engineers and designers.
Responsibilities
- Execute instrumentation engineering activities within a multi-discipline scope of work that includes everything from conceptual design development through to detailed design, procurement support, construction support and commissioning, depending on the needs of the client.
- Participate in multi-discipline projects, including developing deliverables from concept through calculations and detailed design, and final / stamped issue.
- Remain current with developing technologies in control and instrumentation technologies.
- Engage directly with clients to understand their requirements and expectations and deliver top quality solutions.
- Perform detailed reviews of project instrumentation design specifications, design drawings and standard detail drawings.
- Perform calculations including sizing calculations for control valves, flow meters, PSVs, orifice plates, thermowells and level instruments.
- Develop Engineering Work Packages including instrument selection and sizing, instrument purchase documentation, wiring diagrams, control panel layouts, instrument layouts, installation details, instrumentation index and written construction work steps.
- Understand and complete work within established project budgets ensuring work is completed according to the defined contractual scope and execution strategy.
- Provide additional support as needed including learning the work requirements of other disciplines (process, electrical, mechanical, structural) in order to deliver well-rounded solutions to clients.
- Support proposal and engineering estimates for project proposal development.
- Identify and liaise with potential new clients to support the growth of the team and company.
- Collaborate with internal and external senior engineers and designers for support and development on more challenging tasks.

- Travel to the field for project scoping, verification, construction support and meeting with clients as needed.

Position Conditions
- Hours of work per week may vary depending on available work and skillset of individual, but the intention is that this is a full-time position.
- Salary is commensurate with industry salary scale
- Salary is commensurate with APEGA or ASET salary scale.
- Job is typically performed in an office environment.
- Site travel may be required depending on the project.
