Description
About the role – 18 Month Fixed term contract Our Group Fraud Management department is undergoing some exciting changes and as a result we have an exciting opportunity to join the Intelligence, Detection and System Support team on an 18-month secondment. As a Senior Intelligence & Detection Specialist your primary function is to reduce People First Bank customers’ exposure to fraud & scam losses by providing advanced detection and analytical services. This involves developing, supporting, and maintaining analytical frameworks and quantitative techniques to identify and manage fraud & scam risks across a range of portfolios, including digital fraud, card fraud, and scam detection. You will play a direct role in generating transaction monitoring alerts by utilising a fraud detection system, investigating and collaborating with stakeholders to establish if transactions are genuine or suspicious. This role puts you at the centre of advanced fraud analytics, turning intelligence into action to deliver real-world impact at scale. Key responsibilities include: Help evolve end-to-end fraud detection capability: design, deploy and optimise fraud detection rules, analytical frameworks and quantitative techniques that measurably reduce fraud and scam losses across a member-owned bank with a strong purpose focus. Turn complex data into actionable fraud intelligence: interrogate large, multi-source datasets using SAS, SQL, Python or R to identify patterns, quantify emerging fraud threats and balance fraud risk with customer friction. Analyse fraud trends, incident reviews and system performance to influence Fraud Detection and Prevention frameworks, Group Fraud Management strategy and proactive fraud prevention initiatives. Be the subject-matter expert and innovator: act as a trusted SME for fraud systems, tools and analytics, building new tools and processes that activate leading-edge detection capabilities and promote continuous improvement. Collaborate widely and influence outcomes: partner with Fraud, Triage, Projects, Technology and external industry bodies to improve detection performance, support change initiatives and strengthen industry intelligence networks. Protect members while enhancing their experience – deliver detection strategies that minimise losses while maintaining an excellent member journey, supported by robust metrics, reporting and best-practice governance. About you A hands-on fraud analytics role where your insights directly influence strategy, systems and outcomes, protecting members while staying ahead of evolving fraud threats. You will succeed in this role if: You are a highly analytical fraud specialist with proven experience deploying fraud detection and prevention analytics, and you thrive on using data to uncover patterns, quantify risk and reduce fraud losses. You bring strong technical capability in SAS, SQL, Python or R, with the ability to interrogate large, complex datasets and translate insights into effective detection rules and business outcomes. You understand the financial crime landscape including fraud typologies, card fraud controls and relevant regulatory and compliance frameworks and apply this knowledge pragmatically in a banking environment. You think strategically while executing with precision, balancing fraud risk, false positives and customer friction to deliver measurable improvements in detection performance. You are a trusted collaborator and influencer, able to work across Fraud, Technology, Operations and external industry bodies, while confidently sharing insights and recommendations with stakeholders and leaders.
