With one of the largest listed defence company market capitalisations in Australia and having raised approximately $250m in 2024 alone, DroneShield is undergoing hypergrowth stage, fuelled by rapidly increasing use of drones for nefarious applications, from battlefield, to terrorism, to contraband delivery and commercial espionage.
This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Pyrmont, Sydney. There are approximately 270 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 300 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Denmark, Germany and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • CA or CPA qualified, or on path to completion in the near term.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a technical role related to the inventory and asset functions of a manufacturing business.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a geographically distributed team, alongside engineering and operations specialists.
  • Experience with Oracle ERP or similar programs is desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a willingness to collaborate with stakeholders across finance, operations and sales. You will need to display a willingness to ‘learn the language’ of our high-tech products and processes.
  • Desire to improve processes to benefit the efficiency of the wider team.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Company is looking to recruit a Senior Inventory and Asset Accountant, who will be a critical member of the growing finance function. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of inventory and fixed asset accounting, including inventory receipting, costing, reconciliations, and reporting. In addition, the candidate will assist with developing effective inventory processes as part of a wider ERP transition planned for 2025. The position will report to the Financial Controller, however will also work closely with senior stakeholders including the COO, CFO and sales team.

RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Collaborate with the operations team to track the receipt and allocation of parts to be used in manufacturing processes.
  • Perform costing and COGS allocation activities, including tracking of direct materials and labour across a wide range of internally and externally manufactured high-tech products.
  • Produce weekly and monthly reporting on available sale stock and raw materials, and assist with demand planning for future orders.
  • Management of the fixed asset register, including office equipment, demonstration equipment, vehicles and R&D tools.
  • Assistance with stocktakes and impairment analysis for both inventory and fixed asset, to be completed in line with the requirements of the Australian Accounting Standards.
  • Working closely with the Accounting Project Team to assist in upcoming ERP and CRM transitions.
