KEY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, planning, organisational and negotiation skills.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Tertiary qualifications in administrative law, government investigations and/or other relevant discipline, or equivalent knowledge and workplace experience.
  • All roles within the Office of the Children’s Guardian are required to have a current Working with Children Check.
  • Employment at the Office of the Children’s Guardian is subject to the satisfactory completion of security and vetting checks.

Responsibilities

Due to the nature of the RCD’s role, occupants in this role will be exposed to content, hear stories about other people’s experiences with and be involved in work on potentially distressing and sensitive topics involving children, including sexual offences, sexual misconduct, physical assault, neglect, and behaviour causing serious psychological and emotional harm involving children. Staff have access to support through our Employee Assistance Program, clinical supervision program and other wellbeing initiatives and training.
The role is responsible for oversighting investigations by organisations that come under the Reportable Conduct Scheme and their actions in preventing and responding to reportable allegations, as well as handling enquiries, notifications and complaints under the Children’s Guardian Act 2019.
The Senior Investigation Officer independently manages a high caseload of diverse and complex matters; supports the Directorate’s management with day-to-day operations; supervises and mentors Investigation Officers; while delivering education/training activities.

We are seeking a motivated and resilient person to:

  • Provide timely, expert advice to Management on known and emerging trends and systemic issues, risk management, investigations, complaints, inquiries and other operational matters to enable informed decision-making.
  • Prepare clear, well-written briefs and assessments, undertake detailed, accurate and expert analyses relating to complex and high-risk matters and, using sound judgement, formulate appropriate recommendations for action in accordance with legislative requirements, and relevant policies and procedures.
