ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Are you passionate about creating respectful, safe and accountable workplaces? Do you thrive in complex environments where your investigative skills can make a meaningful impact? If so, we invite you to bring your expertise to our Investigations Unit as a Senior Investigator.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a Senior Investigator, you will play a critical role in upholding workplace integrity across the Government of Alberta. You will lead independent, impartial investigations into allegations of misconduct, breaches of the Public Service Act and Code of Conduct, and Respectful Workplace Policy complaints. Your work will directly support a culture of fairness, trust and accountability within the public service.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and conducting thorough investigations into complex and sensitive workplace complaints.
  • Interviewing complainants, respondents and witnesses with professionalism and neutrality.
  • Collecting, analyzing and assessing evidence to determine findings based on the balance of probabilities.
  • Preparing high-quality, defensible investigative reports that may be relied upon in disciplinary, grievance, arbitration, or legal proceedings.
  • Overseeing triage of formal complaints, ensuring timely and appropriate routing.
  • Serving as a trusted contact for internal stakeholders, and liaising with external agencies (including law enforcement) when necessary.
  • Supporting organizational learning by mentoring HR staff, sharing investigative best practices, and delivering education sessions.
  • Identifying systemic issues and contributing insights that influence policy evolution and workplace culture.

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

Investigations in the Alberta Public Service carry weight. The findings you produce will influence disciplinary decisions, arbitration outcomes, and organizational culture. You will help shape respectful workplaces across the province, ensuring employees are treated fairly and organizational values are upheld.
If you are energized by solving complex puzzles, seeking clarity in challenging situations, and applying your investigative expertise to make a meaningful impact, we want to hear from you.
