Job Title: Rail Switching Lead (Senior Switchman) – Birmingham, AL Location: Birmingham, AL Pay: $22.00/hour Schedule: Full-Time If you have real rail switching experience and are ready to step into a leadership role, this is that opportunity. Road & Rail Services is hiring a Rail Switching Lead in Birmingham, AL. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will work alongside your crew, leading daily switching operations, coordinating railcar movement, and training employees in a safety-critical environment. This is not an entry-level role. Candidates without prior rail switching experience will not be considered. The Role In this position, you will combine field work with leadership responsibilities. You will be actively involved in switching operations while guiding your team to meet production and safety expectations. This role requires someone who leads from the front, understands rail operations, and can hold others accountable. What You Will Be Doing Lead daily rail switching operations Work alongside your crew in a hands-on capacity Coordinate safe and efficient railcar movement Conduct job briefings and assign daily tasks Train and mentor employees on FRA-regulated procedures Identify unsafe conditions and correct them in real time Ensure all work meets company, customer, and federal safety standards Complete required audits, reports, and documentation What We Are Looking For Required Prior rail switching experience (non-negotiable) Experience working in a rail yard, transload, or industrial rail environment Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, cold, dust, and noise Willingness to work overtime when needed High school diploma or GED Valid driver's license Strong commitment to safety and compliance with FRA, OSHA, and DOT regulations Preferred Previous leadership or crew lead experience Experience training or mentoring other employees Pay and Position Fit $22.00/hour starting pay Full-time, stable work environment Opportunity for advancement into higher leadership roles This role is best suited for someone with rail experience who is looking for long-term stability, consistent hours, and a path into leadership.
