The Senior Learning Designer role is responsible for the co-design and development of assessment tasks as well as related activities and strategies. The Assessment Refresh Project is a major strategic initiative at Victoria University, designed to revitalise assessment practice across Higher Education and TAFE. It delivers on a key institutional commitment outlined in the University’s Generative AI Action Plan submitted to TEQSA, ensuring a rigorous and future-focused response to the challenges and opportunities presented by generative AI. The project embeds secure, authentic assessments that assure student learning outcomes, while also supporting students to develop Gen AI literacy through well-designed open, formative tasks. The project strengthens the integrity of assessment, improves the scaffolding of student learning across courses, and supports graduate readiness for an AI-integrated, rapidly evolving professional environment. About the Role: The Senior Learning Designer role focuses on the collaborative design and development of assessment tasks as well as related activities and strategies for blended and online learning delivery as part of the Assessment Refresh strategic project and Core Business operations. The role also contributes to the broader curriculum development and learner experience in a variety of programs with the focus on academic integrity, integration of AI and GenAI in learning contexts and enhancement of graduate employment outcomes. It is part of the Assessment Refresh Project and reports to the Manager of Learning Design. The position works collaboratively with academic and teaching teams as well as other stakeholders. This is a fixed-term position (12 months) at a HEW 8, $110,100 - $123,987 classification working 36.75 hours per week over a definite contract period (with the possibility of extension). An example of your responsibilities or duties you may perform will include: Designing and developing assessments, related activities and strategies for delivery in various modes including blended and online in the VU Block model. Contributing to the Assessment Refresh strategic project (for details, refer to major tasks and accountabilities section in the position description). About You: You will have experience as a learning designer working in the delivery of learning in tertiary education and/or other areas in the sector. You will be highly self-motivated, knowledgeable about the evidence and practice of learning and assessment design and have a strong attention to detail. You will be curious, collaborative, and willing to innovate but also aware of the need to rely on evidence and acknowledged best practice. You will have experience and knowledge of embedding AI and GenAI in a variety of learning and teaching contexts. Your work would be expected to scale up across the University and would directly improve the learning experience of many students.
