The School has an international reputation in AI and Machine Learning, Cyber Security, 5G and Next Generation Communication Systems and Advanced Materials Innovation. The teaching is organised at a School level and you will join the School Teaching Team of dynamic, collegiate and highly skilled computer scientists.
The position aims to provide excellent teaching delivery and assessment in all areas of the computer science and data science curricula within hands-on coding and development experience. You will also provide academic leadership to support the School in developing its AI in education strategy and lead its implementation across our Computer Science and Electronic Engineering programmes. Candidates with wider interests in contributing to our transnational education agenda are also encouraged to apply.
Candidates will also be expected to contribute to research aligned to that of the School Teaching Team which includes AI in education, automation of large scale assessment and personalised feedback, and improving student experience in large classes, or to the research of the Computer Science Research Centre, which has an international reputation in cyber security, AI and data science,
The Surrey Centre for Cyber Security within the School is recognised by the National Cyber Security Centre as an Academic Centre of Excellence for Cyber Security Research and Education. Its research was also a core contributor to Surrey’s 7th position in the UK for REF2021 outputs within Computer Science. Surrey was recognised as Cyber University of the Year 2023 at the National Cyber Awards and is again shortlisted for the 2025 awards.
We are looking for candidates that possess a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience, demonstrable teaching experience in a manner that meaningfully engages people. It is essential that you have a track-record of leading teaching innovation and of working in a team to support teaching excellence. We encourage candidates from both academia and industry to apply to drive forward innovation in teaching.
The postholder will benefit from the support of colleagues within the School and across the University to develop their careers. The University’s welcoming community recognises the need to nurture its staff and to help them build a flourishing career. You will also have an opportunity to join the many networks across the organisation, the Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Education team recognised by the National Cyber Security Centre, and collaborate with stakeholders across the University.
The University of Surrey is committed to providing an inclusive environment that offers equal opportunities for all. We place great value on diversity and are seeking to increase the diversity within our community.
