The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is a world-leading institution in research and education in global and tropical health., We are delighted to be ranked first overall in the latest Postgraduate Experience Survey (PTES),2nd in the UK for research impact and 12th overall in clinical medicine, with nearly half of all outputs graded world-leading (4*).
We are now seeking a Senior Lecturer in Global Mental Health to join our Department of International Public Health. This is an exciting opportunity to strengthen and expand LSTM’s research, teaching, and partnerships in mental health, building on our long-standing expertise in health systems, NTD research, disability and gender, and our recent strategic investment in global mental health.
The postholder will play a leading role in developing an internationally recognised programme of research, contribute to the design and delivery of innovative teaching, and mentor the next generation of global mental health researchers. You will also work collaboratively with global partners to translate research into policy and practice, helping shape international responses to population mental health.

Responsibilities
  • Developing and leading an internationally excellent research programme in global mental health, with a sustained trajectory of high-quality publications.
  • Securing significant, competitive grant funding and strengthening partnerships with funders, governments, and global health agencies.
  • Leading innovative curriculum design and teaching across MSc and PhD programmes, and mentoring students with a focus on mental health research.
  • Supporting the professional development of early career researchers and fostering equitable, long-term partnerships with LMIC institutions.
  • Translating research into impact through policy engagement, advisory roles, and contributions to global health dialogues.
  • Representing LSTM’s work in global mental health at national and international levels, and playing a leadership role in relevant networks and collaborations.
  • Contributing actively to the academic governance and strategic direction of LSTM, and modelling our values of inclusivity, partnership, and impact.
