Description
ABOUT US   Transforming lives through the power of education   London Metropolitan University is a striving and ambitious institution committed to transforming the lives of its students through the power of education.   We are committed to creating and advancing social justice, social mobility and access to opportunity and professions through education. Our graduates benefit personally, but also contribute to society, culture, public service and the economy in all areas of London, nationally and internationally.   The School of Human Sciences brings together the University's science-based and health related provision and the underpinning scientific disciplines. Our courses are closely allied to subjects related to medicine and focus on activities that consider the factors that influence human health  which take a holistic approach to individual and community wellbeing.   ABOUT THE POST London Metropolitan University School of Human Sciences is looking to recruit a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing. The successful applicant will be a Registered Mental Health Nurse with a passion for developing mental health nursing careers in community, social care and inpatient settings. With an established background in nursing education within both university and practice settings, you will ideally be in possession of a higher education teaching award such as the HEA fellowship or similar. You will have a passion for nurse education, widening participation, and a drive to see our students succeed.    Experience in skills development, placement sourcing, development and audit are desirable as the postholder will lead the practice education element of the BSc (Hons) Nursing (Mental Health). You should have a good knowledge of the changing landscape of primary, community and social care, and the drive toward interprofessional, place-based, and integrated care working.   The work of our team is values driven and explicitly addresses social justice and social inclusion not only through a clear underpinning philosophy but also in the collaborative and participative teaching and learning approach. We intend our work to be transformative in raising student aspirations and enhancing employability through a consistent emphasis on personal, professional and academic development in addition to reflecting current and future trends in the sector. The successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to, and experience of, working aligned with these values.   Working with locally identified needs, our nursing programme has a local, primary, community and social care nursing focus: seeking to promote the visibility of primary, community and social care careers through our innovative simulated placements and clinical nursing placements within the nursing curriculum. We empower our students to work to the scope of their registration on graduation and showcase a full range of nursing career options throughout their student career with us.    We have invested in an ambitious programme for nursing. Our multi-million-pound Simulation and Skills Suite (Which was formally opened in January 2024), provides opportunities for clinical simulation in a range of health care settings, from home to hospital. Our community-based simulation spaces and immersive learning technology further support our ambitions. Our nursing programme provision is complemented with a range of allied health professional programmes including dietetics, nutrition, physiotherapy and psychology, as well as biomedical sciences offering opportunities for interprofessional learning, teaching and clinical simulation.      This post will be subject to an enhanced DBS check. Ref: 567  Interviews: due to be held on 16 July 2026.  HOW TO APPLY •    Please complete the online application in full, making sure you address the person specification criteria in your statement as this will enable us to make an informed shortlisting decision. •    All applicants are additionally asked to submit a statement of no more than one page, articulating how you have contributed to promoting an inclusive culture using examples based on past experience, and how you would support the work of our University in being inclusive of all. •    If you wish to attach any additional documents such as a CV you may do so (please follow the instructions).
