Full time, continuing position Exciting opportunity to a Senior Lecturer within the School of Medical Sciences at the University of Sydney Base Salary starting at $156,103 + 17% superannuation About the opportunity The School of Medical Sciences (SoMS) is recognised as one of the leading centres for medical science education and research. Our research has a clear focus on impact at a local and global scale, and we obtain over $60M in funding per annum to support this. SoMS delivers teaching into a variety of programs, including Science, Medical Science, and several professional degrees like the Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Dentistry. This position will be focused in the Infection, Immunity and Inflammation Theme, which brings together both basic science and clinician researchers, with the goal of generating the most comprehensive definition of key determinants that underpin pathogen driven and autoimmune diseases and host immunological responses to these conditions. Our research focuses on the interplay between the host immune system and a wide range of medically important human diseases. By understanding the mechanisms that enable the development of both infectious and non-infectious diseases, as we all as the inflammatory conditions that develop, we can provide a rational basis for the development of novel treatments, immunotherapies, vaccines and other preventative measures to lessen the impact of such diseases on the human population. Members of the Infection, Immunity and Inflammation theme teach students at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level and bring their research experience to these teaching programs with the goal of fostering the development of the next generation of research leaders. We are seeking a Senior Lecturer to make a significant contribution to research, teaching, and service within their discipline. The role involves building a strong national reputation, delivering high-quality education, and contributing to the strategic and academic goals of the school or faculty. Your key responsibilities will be to: build and maintain a reputation for academic excellence through independent and innovative contributions to research and education, expanding knowledge and practice in the discipline establish collaborations and partnerships to enhance the research profile and reputation of the university coordinate and engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences, including supervising higher degree research students to successful completion coordinate, develop and continually improve curricula, programs and resources to enhance teaching and learning outcomes coordinate activities of academic staff and provide training and mentorship to less experienced lecturers provide leadership that has a significant impact on teaching, innovation, curriculum development, research training and supervision contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled undertake other duties and contribute to projects appropriate within the classification level as required. About you doctorate or PhD and professional qualifications in immunology and/or infectious diseases significant experience in teaching and learning within an established program and across a variety of settings significant experience in education design and practice significant experience conducting original research and engaging in scholarly activity significant experience supervising and mentoring others an established national reputation for expertise in infection and immunity research track record of obtaining independent research funding an established network of academic and/or industry and professional partners and stakeholders a national reputation as influential in expanding knowledge, pedagogical innovation, or curriculum development outstanding skills in research, critical thinking and decision making, planning and organisation, and delivering presentations effectively ability to communicate effectively to a diverse cadre of students and staff and demonstrate computer literacy excellent collegiality across teaching and research.
