We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Legal Counsel, Corporate and Institutional Banking .

QUALIFICATIONS - EXTERNAL

  • Qualified Lawyer with 10 years’ relevant experience
  • Experienced and confident practitioner
  • Excellent negotiation and drafting skills and will have demonstrated the ability to take initiative and apply good commercial and legal judgment
  • Up-to-date knowledge of developments in own industry sector
  • Lateral thinking/problem solving skills and ability to handle a diverse range of issues, deal with new or unexpected situations and work under pressure
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and strong inter-personal skills
  • Great sense of ownership and servicing mindset to ensure efficient and effective customer service processes
  • A collaborative teammate, but also a self-starter who is able to work independently with an entrepreneurial drive
Responsibilities

The role holder will be part of the legal team that provides legal advice and support to the Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) business.

Principle responsibilities will include:

  • Provide legal support on all aspects of the Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) business to ensure that legal and reputational risks of the CIB business are proactively identified and mitigated
  • Draft, review and negotiate relevant contracts and transaction document
  • Develop and maintain standard documentation templates
  • Liaise with and manage external counsel where necessary and in a cost-effective manner
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders that support that CIB business
  • Support local, regional and/or global projects and initiatives
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and industry developments relevant to the CIB business, and ensure senior legal management and CIB business teams are briefed/updated on the impact of these changes/developments
  • Deliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets
