Parliamentary Counsel's Office Senior Legislation Editing and Parliament Officer Temporary (12 months, with possibility of extension or ongoing) – Full time (35 hours) About the Parliamentary Counsel’s Office (PCO) The NSW Parliamentary Counsel’s Office (PCO) is a Public Service executive agency related to The Cabinet Office. We are responsible for drafting legislation for NSW, including Bills for introduction into Parliament and a wide range of statutory instruments such as regulations, rules, proclamations and orders. We also provide drafting services for non-Government Members of Parliament under arrangements approved by the Government. PCO also delivers the editorial, publishing and access services that support the NSW statute book. We manage the NSW legislation website, which is the only official NSW Government site for online access to legislation, publishing "as made" and consolidated versions, as well as Bills and related material, so the community and Government can access accurate, up-to-date legislation. Our work ensures the laws of NSW are clear, effective and accessible, supporting the Government, Parliament and the people of NSW. Why work with us? About the role The Senior Legislation Editing and Parliament Officer performs highly technical editorial, publishing and parliamentary support work across a range of legislative products. You will: Edit draft legislation and produce final, accurate proofs for Parliament. Prepare updated versions of Bills, including during parliamentary sittings. Manage the weekly publication of the NSW Government Gazette. Maintain and update the legislation database and website content. Provide support to Parliament, including during sitting nights. Assist with quality assurance, reviewing work and providing guidance to team members. Contribute to training, procedural documentation and system improvement projects. Key skills and experience We are looking for someone who has strong attention to detail and enjoys working with complex technical content in a fast‑paced environment. You will bring: Well‑developed editing, writing and language skills. Experience working in a high-performing, collaborative team. Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Interest in or understanding of legislative and parliamentary processes. Essential requirements include: Experience or capability to work with legislative editing and publishing systems (e.g. SGML/XML or similar structured content systems). Ability to learn and use specialised databases and workflow systems. Ability to deliver training and support colleagues. Availability to work rostered late shifts and occasional overtime during parliamentary sitting periods. Location & flexibility This position is primarily based in Sydney CBD, with flexible working arrangements available in accordance with NSW Public Sector guidelines.
