POSITION SUMMARY The Ridgefield Community Library has an opening for a 60% FTE (24 hours/week) Senior Library Assistant. The Senior Library Assistant will be regularly and independently responsible for a complete variety of specialized and clerical duties related to the functions of the work unit. Regular responsibilities include frequent performance of a variety of specialized duties related to programming in a community library and through community visits, information, circulation and outreach services. Independently plans and presents programs for families and children of all ages. As authorized may be responsible for the operation of the branch or department and may direct the work activities and perform assigned activities in the orientation and training of other employees and volunteers for multiple tasks. May be responsible for the opening and closing of the library. Education & Experience Requirements To be considered for this opportunity, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications listed below. * High School Diploma or GED * Three years clerical and/or technical library experience * Previous experience as an Assistant II or SLA of more than one year and experience working with children SCHEDULE The schedule for this position is: * Sundays: OFF * Mondays: 9:05 am - 6:05 pm * Tuesdays: 9:05 am - 6:05 pm * Wednesdays: OFF * Thursdays: OFF * Fridays: OFF * Saturdays: 9:05 am - 6:05 pm SCHEDULES MAY BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE BASED ON BUSINESS NEEDS. EMPLOYEES WILL RECEIVE 14 DAYS NOTICE AS OUTLINED IN ARTICLE 12.1 OF THE FVRL/WPEA COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT.  COMPENSATION The pay grade [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gt1h4IC-3ZvMOR4QF-x2XlhTChQZfSQW/view] (Pay Grade F) for this position spans from $21.24 per hour to $30.01 per hour.  Compensation for this position is negotiated by WPEA for their members as part of the collective bargaining process.  Employees promoting into this position will receive the minimum rate of the new job classification pay grade in step A, or the step closest to but no less than one hundred and five percent (105%) of their current hourly rate, whichever is greater. WPEA members progress through the pay grade by receiving step increases on their assigned step increase date (SID).  For more information please refer to WPEA/AFSCME Collective Bargaining Agreement, [https://source.fvrl.org/intranet/includes/secure_file.cfm?ID=348&menuID=2000293] Article 9.7. * Employees who are newly hired at the minimum step of the pay grade will receive a two (2) step increase following completion of the twelve (12) months of continuous employment in the position, and an additional two step increase following 24 total months of continuous employment in the position. * Employees newly hired above the minimum step of the pay grade will receive a two (2) step increase following completion of the first twelve (12) months of continuous employment in the position.  * Except as provided above, all employees will receive a one-step increase annually, on their Periodic Increment Date, until they reach the top of their pay grade. Some positions may be eligible for a 5% pay premium on top of the starting pay rate for additional language skills. To be eligible for the additional pay employees must pass a test demonstrating verbal and written fluency in languages commonly used in our communities.  Examples may include, but are not limited to, Spanish, Russian, Mandarin and American Sign Language. Skills assessments may be required for positions that have technical, mechanical or physical qualifications. Skills assessments will be scored and a passing point established. The passing point will be established by mutual agreement between the Union and the Employer. Candidates who have previously passed the skills assessment will not be required to retake the assessment unless it is changed. Qualified promotional candidates will be interviewed and those with the two (2) highest scores will be considered.
