LIBRARY Senior Library Officer (Chinese Medicine Library) (25260389) Are you a service-driven professional with a passion for service and operational excellence? The Hong Kong Baptist University Library is seeking an energetic, creative, and self-motivated Senior Library Officer to join a specialised branch library. The Dr. Stephen Riady Chinese Medicine Library (CML) was established to provide high-quality Chinese Medicine information resources and services. In this role, you will help shape services and experiences in a library that will be newly renovated by spring 2026, supporting the University’s teaching, learning, and research in the growing field of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Responsibilities: Supervise daily operations of the Chinese Medicine Library (CML), provide training and guidance to CML staff, and contribute to development of operating procedures; Oversee the CML circulation counter and deliver front-line user services (phone/in person enquiries, information searches, course reading handling, check in/check out, etc.), including rotating evenings, weekends, and public holidays; Supervise stacks management and perform sorting, shelving, and shelf-reading of books and journals according to the library classification systems to ensure that library materials on the shelves are neat and orderly to facilitate convenient access; Maintain, compile, and report the statistical summaries of CML collections, services and facilities data for the use of service improvement. Assess/analyse the usage of these data and make recommendations to enhance library services for users as appropriate; Support development and management of Chinese Medicine Digital Projects in collaboration with other library units and faculty. Provide administrative support for new initiatives and projects (prepare background information, draft correspondence/reports, etc.); Liaise with the staff from HKBU Estates Office and Finance Office to follow up on the progress on purchase requests, renovations, and maintenance orders for CML; Perform desktop publishing of library publications such as leaflets, posters, newsletters, etc. Organise library displays/exhibits. Conduct library tours for users and visitors; and Undertake any other duties and/or contribute to occasional projects as assigned by the supervisor, the Deputy University Librarian, or the University Librarian as necessary. Requirements: A university degree; At least 6 or more years of related experience in library, working experience of medical library will be an advantage; Good working knowledge of circulation modules of the library’s integrated management system (i.e. Alma); Thorough understanding of library call number systems such as Chinese Library Classification, Dewey Decimal Classification, LC Classification, and New Classification Scheme for Chinese Libraries; Fundamental skills in locating library materials in the online library discovery service (i.e. Primo); Understanding of essential elements in a bibliographic citation to library materials; Technical skills in using various application software including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Canva, and AI tools, etc.; Good working knowledge of operating & troubleshooting audio-visual equipment, PCs, printers, photocopiers, etc.; Good communication and interpersonal skills to handle users’ needs, inquiries, suggestions, complaints, etc. patiently, courteously and tactfully; Attention to detail, ability to compile and analyse statistics, and experience in frontline circulation. Supervisory skills and experience are desirable; Good written and oral communication skills in both English and Chinese (including Putonghua); and Background and/or demonstrated interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is advantageous. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, in the range of HKD 33,730 - 58,120 per month.
