Description Job Title: Senior Linux Systems Administrator Department: Operations – Services Reports To: RavenTek Program Manager Location: Norfolk, VA Schedule: Monday – Friday Hours: Full-time, 40-hours/week FLSA Status: Hourly, Nonexempt Clearance: Ability to obtain Secret level Position Summary The Senior Linux Systems Administrator supports mission-critical maintenance and logistics applications within a collaborative team environment. This position provides system administration, cybersecurity compliance, and sustainment support for enterprise Linux and Unix-based systems across development, test, and production environments. This role ensures systems remain secure, stable, and compliant with Department of Defense cybersecurity requirements. The performance of this position is key to RavenTek's performance on the contract, and therefore RavenTek's mission to support the customer. Requirements Essential Duties and Responsibilities Administer and maintain enterprise Linux and Unix-based server environments. Perform routine system administration, including account management, patching, updates, and configuration of software and services. Monitor system performance and develop scripts or tools to notify responsible personnel of system issues. Implement security hardening measures in accordance with DoD cybersecurity requirements and established configuration baselines. Conduct periodic vulnerability assessments and execute remediation or mitigation actions as required. Support Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities and maintain required compliance documentation. Collaborate with software development, testing, and engineering teams to support deployment and sustainment of mission applications. Troubleshoot system, application, and performance issues in coordination with cross-functional teams. Maintain accurate system documentation, procedures, and configuration records. Participate in Agile or team-based workflows to promote continuous improvement and mission delivery Enter actual time worked, once complete, at the end of the day, or no later than 10:00 a.m. the following workday, and submit timesheets at the end of each pay period. Submit Monthly Status Reports on a regular basis, as required. Monitor RavenTek email on a regular basis, at least 3 times per week, and respond accordingly. Complete required compliance training as assigned. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge and Critical Skills Strong expertise in Linux system administration principles and best practices. Working knowledge of Unix-based operating systems and enterprise configurations. Thorough understanding of DoD cybersecurity policies, vulnerability management, and system hardening practices. Knowledge supporting security compliance efforts within regulated or classified environments. Proficiency developing scripts using Bash, Python, or similar languages to automate administration and monitoring tasks. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot across operating systems, applications, and networked environments. Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, mission-focused team environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and stakeholder coordination. Education & Work Experience Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field. Minimum of 8–12 years of experience in system administration or a related technical role. Experience supporting DoD or similarly regulated environments preferred. Experience supporting enterprise applications in development, test, and production environments. Certifications, Licenses CompTIA Security+ CE required. Relevant Linux certification, such as RHCSA or RHCE, preferred. Relevant cybersecurity certification preferred. Special Requirements Ability to obtain and maintain Secret level clearance. Work Environment Employee will be working indoors in an office environment with other people. Potential moderate temperature fluctuations. Typical indoor and computer related noise level, and typical office, paper, and equipment related dust. Exposure to video display terminals occurs on a regular basis. Physical Demands To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, the employee needs to be able to sit at a workstation for extended periods; use hand(s) to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; see to read printed materials and computer screens; mobility to work in a typical office setting. Ability to work on desktop or laptop computer for extended periods of time reading, reviewing/analyzing information, and may be required to provide recommendations, summaries and/or reports in written format. Must be able to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing. Employee must be able to lift and/or move moderate amounts of weight, typically up to 20 pounds.
