Job Title: Senior Logistics Associate GS7 Grade: GS7 Type of contract: Fixed Term Contract Duration: 12 Months Renewal of contract: Subject to WFP needs, staff performance and the availability of funds Duty Station: Ashdod This vacancy announcement is for Jerusalem/ Israeli ID. Organisational Context: These jobs are found in Headquarters (HQ), Regional Bureaux (RBs) and Country Offices (COs) and Area/Field Offices. Job holders report to a Logistics Officer, Head of Unit or the designate. At this level, job holders have independent responsibility for technical, specialised work including planning, organisation and coordination and setting objectives for all assistance modalities for both WFP and logistics common services. They deal with issues that are often undefined and involve areas of uncertainty and complex inter-relationships. The instructions received are broad and the job holders consistently demonstrate a high degree of responsibility and initiative to independently manage activities and respond to queries. Job holders are expected to motivate and develop a team of support staff and/or are responsible for specialised support service(s) where the work is undertaken with the help of specially designed techniques, methods and processes. Job Purpose: To provide a range of specialised support functions and/or lead a team performing standard logistics/supply chain processes and activities to enable effective delivery of goods and services for all delivery modalities. ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide specialized technical support and expert advice to facilitate shipping and logistics operations, ensuring adherence to standard processes and contributing to the effective and efficient delivery of commodities and resources. Coordinate and monitor the end-to-end shipment lifecycle—including requisitioning, loading, discharge, and final delivery to authorized destinations or partners—ensuring timely execution and resolution/escalation of any issues encountered. Manage logistics vendors, including contracting, performance monitoring, and vendor assessments (e.g. transporters, shipping lines, customs clearing agents, warehouse contractor, etc.). Prepare, monitor, and revise complex budgets for all delivery modalities to ensure compliance with relevant financial and procurement procedures. Monitor inventory and commodity accounting systems to ensure data integrity and accurate tracking of stock movements from origin to beneficiary, supporting accountability and transparency in supply chain operations. Conduct research, data collection, and in-depth analysis on shipping and logistics activities. Prepare substantive reports with insights and recommendations to support decision-making and operational planning. Design, develop, and maintain systems, databases, and records to ensure accurate, accessible, and up-to-date information supporting internal and external reporting requirements. Oversee and coordinate documentation for logistics and shipping operations—including customs clearance, transport documentation, and invoice processing—ensuring accuracy and timely processing. Support risk identification and mitigation activities including maintaining risk registers, verifying shipping and logistics data, escalating potential issues, and proposing corrective measures to ensure smooth operations. Liaise with internal teams (e.g. Procurement, Supply Chain, contracting, HQ Shipping, Commodity Accounting and Funds Management) and external stakeholders (e.g. suppliers, transporters, service providers, government bodies) to ensure alignment, resolve issues, and strengthen collaboration for effective logistics operations. Contribute to ongoing process reviews and recommend improvements to methods, tools, and systems used in shipping and logistics activities to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and service quality. Support the HQ Shipping Unit for their negotiations with ocean carriers, freight forwarders, and other logistics partners by gathering and presenting relevant data to help secure cost-effective and timely transportation solutions. Manage and coach a team of staff, providing guidance, training, and performance oversight to ensure delivery of individual and team objectives in line with organizational standards and timelines. Participate in emergency logistics preparedness and response efforts, including capacity assessments and contingency planning, to enable rapid and effective deployment of aid during crises. DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE: • Experience coordinating with transportation providers and third parties. • Experience leading a team of national staff. • Experience assisting in project management. • Experience in preparing and managing budgets. Experience: At least 7 years of relevant experience in Logistics and Supply Chain. Education: A post-secondary school certificate, Bachelor’s degree is preferable in related function area. Language: Excellent written and oral communication skills in Hebrew and English, knowledge of Arabic is an advantage. Special conditions; Transportation from-to Ashdod is not provided and will be the candidate's responsibility. Working hours; 08:00- 15:30 while flexibility on working hours is required and under certain conditions may start from 05:00-13:30 or differently Fixed Term positions; Staff hired on Fixed Term Contract are members of the Organization are international civil servants.
