Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer (MLE) for a full-time position (40 hours per week) in Costa Rica. Our client is the global leader in cloud-based legal case management and client onboarding software for solo to midsize law firms. The team is building a brand new AI team to achieve the mission. You will be one of the first MLEs joining the team, helping build the company’s AI offering from group up. The legal industry is positioned exceptionally well for applications of the latest language models and GenAI. The AI team is bringing in the newest technology in NLP and GenAI to provide customers with solutions to make their work more streamlined and efficient, allowing them more time to focus on their clients’ needs.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in model development, specifically with traditional machine learning, NLP-based modeling, and transformer models.
  • Understanding manipulating, cleaning, and pre-processing complex unstructured data for model development.
  • Experience working with open-source LLM foundation models and APIs for commercial LLMs, such as ChatGPT or Gemini.
  • The ability to quickly gain fluency in new technologies and work effectively in a dynamic and ever-evolving environment that includes distributed teams and customers.
  • Demonstrated success in mentorship in software development, mainly using an Agile process and with large-scale SaaS products.
  • A diverse base of knowledge that allows you to help your team solve complex technical problems.
  • A portfolio of past projects (including notable successes and lessons learned).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build high-trust relationships with fellows and customers.
Responsibilities
  • Develop advanced machine learning models using structured and unstructured data to improve the customer’s experience.
  • Create LLMs-based solutions to help the company’s clients save time and create efficiencies.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product management, operations, and data science to identify new ML-driven features for customers.
  • Work in an agile environment with a team of machine learning engineers, MLOps engineering, and full stack developers across various projects.
  • Learn new things, challenge yourself, and hone your craft as a machine learning expert.
  • Participate in diverse projects and collaborate with multiple engineering teams across three countries.
  • Review and provide feedback on code, both from within your team and across the company.
  • Collaborate with teams across the company to diagnose, understand, and solve problems and to build solutions that may span many areas.
  • Teach and learn from those around you, providing constructive feedback to those around you, and taking on feedback to help grow.
