JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible managing and coordinating all maintenance jobs including production equipment and utilities to ensure and maintain optimum operation of the plant. Responsible for developing and delivering yearly maintenance budget. Manage the maintenance teams. Develop and implement investment plan for the plant, in conjunction with the group Engineering Department. Contribute to the safety of persons and goods within the plant.

Responsibilities

· Manage staff within your department working closely with middle management
· Organize the department efficiently to ensure smooth functioning and responsiveness
· Develop training plan to optimize and impart technical skills
· Promote deserving staff (salary, support, development)
· Ensure compliance with hygiene and safety of staff during operations
· Ensure the maintenance of a good social climate within teams
· Define a preventive maintenance strategy to avoid breakdowns that lead to loss of production
· Plan interventions and work to be done in tandem with production scheduling
· Ensure the timeliness of repairs on industrial equipment
· Assist Production Department as needed (repair breakages, make alterations, upgrade equipment
· Ensure technical documentation is updated
· Identify the choice of spare parts necessary for the proper functioning of the equipment
· Seek outsourcing depending on the workload of the department
· Participate in the development of the Master Plan for the site
· Formalize the annual investment plan with the Plant Manager
· Research, study, design of future materials in consultation with users
· Prepare descriptive specifications for new equipment based on needs expressed by users
· Consult the various suppliers in conjunction with the Procurement Department just in case there is a bid call
· Analyse the costs and consequences for the organization of proposed technical solutions
· Ensure maximum standardization of equipment
· Comply with the budget allocations for investment
· Follow up on performance of the work at the site or at the premises of the sub-contractor
· Enforce the completion deadlines at the site for effective coordination of multiple participants
· Attend the start-up of new facilities and optimize the operation
· Approve the equipment and facilities after their industrial commissioning
· Confirm compliance of new plants with regulatory requirements
· Ensure that suppliers provide technical documentation (manuals, maps, diagrams, parts lists)
· Check the level of performance of the equipment supplied against the specifications
· Resolve any technical or financial disputes with suppliers, for improved vendor relations
· Establish the operating budgets for your department
· Respect the budget allocations (maintenance and investment)
· Redefine budget priorities in the event of spiralling costs
· Report monthly on the levels of expenditure commitment
· Update the capital equipment file in collaboration with the accounting department
· In collaboration with the Procurement Department make different suppliers compete in order to get the best value for money
· Ensure optimization of operating costs for the spare parts and production consumables warehouse
· Monitor and optimize energy consumption (gas, electricity, water,)
· Develop and maintain procedures and instructions for the department
· Monitor compliance and the proper performance of these procedures and instructions
· Initiate the implementation of corrective or preventive actions based on quality problems of the plant
· Participate in management Quality Assurance reviews
· Make your managerial staff available for Quality Audits or HACCP Analyses
· Lead quality approach among the department staff (compliance with procedures, hygiene awareness,)
· Coordinate all security methodologies and practices within the plant with the Safety Manager and the HR department
· Identify and implement ways to fight against fire and anti-intrusion detection systems
· Maintain relationship with the Security Coordinator of the Group for matters requiring a centralized monitoring
· Participate in visits by our insurer as part of risk prevention and draw up a corrective action plan based on the comments made
· Enforce safety regulations applicable to your staff or external stakeholders (hot work permit, electricity and fluid out of bounds, electrical clearance, forklift driving permit, procedure for opening the site, no smoking, etc.)
· Enforce the work rules
· Comply with legislation in relation to machine conformity and environmental protection
· Follows all Good Manufacturing Practices as stated within the policy
· Follows all Safety rules & procedures by working safely and ensuring safety of others
· Follows all food safety procedures
· Follows all environmental protocols as applicable
· Follows all sanitation procedures and work instructions
· Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned
Qualifications and Competencies:
· Minimum degree and experience:
o Bachelor’s degree preferred
o 3-4 years background with technical and managerial experience.
o 5 years in maintenance / continuous improvement department preferred
o Technological expertise (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, machining, and technical drawing
o Should have intermediate skills with MS Word and Excel
· Specific competencies: (foreign languages, specific knowledge):
o Requires excellent oral, written, and communication skills.
o English required, Spanish and French a plus

Working Conditions:
Work is performed largely in an office environment. Hours of work will generally be during regular business hours with at least 40 hours a week. At times there will be some variation in work hours due to special projects, deadlines and other concerns.
