About the role In this role you will coach and guide a dynamic and diverse trades workforce to deliver Council’s civil infrastructure maintenance activities, while strengthening leadership capability across teams. You will support the evolution of City Works into a cohesive, performance-focused unit that effectively shares resources and meets the growing expectations of our community. You will embed contemporary leadership practices, empower frontline leaders to address local issues, and drive positive change that enhances team performance, encourages collaboration, and helps achieve our service plan goals. Key responsibilities include: * Enhance the understanding of the industrial framework; productivity, commercial competitiveness and service within the operations leadership environment and implement actions to address any identified limitations. * Support the implementation of Visualisation Management across operations, driving localised problem-solving and focused improvements. * Actively contribute to the personal development of each member of the workforce to achieve optimum performance, operational and professional goals. * Identify and recommend operational business improvements. * Competently plan, manage the deliver and performance of Council’s maintenance program through the efficient use of physical, human and financial resources. * Lead the planning and prioritisation of maintenance activities to ensure work is appropriately authorised, scheduled and resourced, with a clear focus on planned versus reactive delivery, reliability of outcomes, and effective use of people, plant and budgets. * Monitor and control contracts, ensuring compliance with established Service Level Agreements and recommending any adjustments for commercial sustainability, competitiveness and best value. About you To be successful in this role, you will have a qualification in Civil Engineering, Business or similar, and extensive experience in a similar position. Essential: * Extensive and diverse leadership within a trade related workforce (>25 staff) or equivalent environment, with the ability to foster an environment of high-functioning, productive and engaged teams. * Genuine desire and skill to enhance our operational performance and uplift the capability of the team. * Demonstrated commercial acumen, with experience in contract management and business planning, including financial and resource management. * Demonstrable experience in collaboratively establishing and measuring performance against KPI’s and service levels. * Proven interest and experience in driving continual improvement activities. * Proven success in driving and delivering cultural change in a challenging environment. * Current Victorian Drivers Licence.
