Description Senior Manager, AccountingCanaan, CT About the Position: We are seeking a Senior Manager, Accounting to serve as the organization’s senior accounting leader within a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, mission-driven healthcare environment. This role provides broad exposure across the organization and close partnership with executive leadership while maintaining strong accounting integrity and operational excellence. The Senior Manager, Accounting is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of the organization’s financial records and reporting. The role partners closely with executive leadership and contributes to strategic discussion by developing and presenting accounting insights, analyses, and recommendations that support informed decision-making and governance oversight. The accounting function operates within an evolving environment shaped by the organization’s growth over time. A key focus of this role is to modernize, enhance, and scale accounting processes as needed to support increasing complexity, while ensuring consistency, accuracy, and operational excellence. This position requires hands-on performance and active day-to-day engagement in the accounting operations. Schedule: Monday - Friday: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm, with flexibility as required What You’ll Do: Accounting Leadership & Oversight Provide leadership across the organization’s accounting function, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll coordination, and fixed assets Guide monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, maintaining high standards for accuracy, timeliness, and completeness Ensure financial statements and related schedules are prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP Financial Leadership, Reporting & Strategic Insight Act as a strategic accounting partner to managers and executive leadership, supporting informed decision-making through clear financial reporting and analysis Develop and deliver financial reports, trend analysis, and variance explanations that support executive and Board-level review Translate complex financial and operational activity into clear narratives that enable productive strategic dialogue Collaborate with department leaders on budgeting, forecasting, and performance monitoring, bringing consistency, rigor, and financial perspective to planning efforts Provide analytical insight and recommendations that help leadership assess performance, risks, and opportunities Compliance, Controls & Audit Uphold compliance with applicable healthcare regulations, including CMS and relevant state and federal requirements Maintain and strengthen internal controls to support consistency, transparency, and risk management. Serve as a primary liaison for internal and external audits, coordinating preparation, responses, and follow-through in partnership with finance leadership and external advisors Team Leadership Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement Provide guidance, review deliverables, and support professional growth within the function Hands-on, everyday operation presence and support Process Improvement & Systems Continuously evaluate accounting workflows and reporting processes to enhance effectiveness and reliability Support system optimization and thoughtful adoption of tools and best practices as the organization evolves Partner cross-functionally to improve financial data integrity and reporting usefulness across the organization What We Offer: High visibility and direct partnership with executive leadership Meaningful impact in a mission-driven healthcare organization Stable schedule with consistent hours (no public accounting grind) Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership of professional staff Experience in healthcare or similarly regulated environments preferred Demonstrated experience with financial reporting, close management, and forecasting CPA or MBA are a plus, but strong hands-on accounting leadership is equally valued. Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (experience with QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar platforms preferred). Strong understanding of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and influence key decision-makers. Compensation: The salary range for this position is $115,000 to $130,000 annually, with placement based on experience, scope of responsibility, and demonstrated leadership capability. Actual pay is determined based on a number of job-related factors including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, performance, and working conditions.
