The Purpose: As the Senior Manager, Business Risk, the purpose of this role is to play a key function in overseeing and managing the first line of defence in risk management within the organisation. This role will focus on supporting our payments products and involve leading risk assessment efforts, supporting mitigation actions, ensuring that operational risks are effectively managed, and collaborating closely with business units to integrate risk management practices into their daily operations. The core accountabilities of the role will include: Conduct risk assessments to identify, evaluate, and manage operational risks. Monitor and report key risk indicators, issues, and mitigation strategies to senior management. Lead and coordinate risk assessment activities, ensuring effective controls are implemented. Collaborate with business leaders to develop and execute tailored mitigation plans. Perform controls assurance, address control gaps, and strengthen risk frameworks. Maintain risk registers and documentation to ensure compliance and governance. Prepare risk reports, communicate with stakeholders, and track emerging risk trends. The capabilities needed to be successful for this role are: Risk Expertise – Qualified in risk management or related discipline, with professional certification preferred. Risk Leadership – 7+ years’ experience in risk management, including senior roles in first/second line or audit, with expertise in complex organisational environments. Payments Experience – Prior experience in the payments industry covering payments products and scheme management Specialist Risk Knowledge – Strong understanding of risk frameworks, controls, and industry best practices, with desirable expertise in technology, payments, and financial services. Risk Assessment & Mitigation – Skilled in identifying risks, implementing controls, and delivering effective mitigation strategies across functions, projects, and programmes. Frameworks & Processes – Designs, implements, and improves risk and quality management processes, standards, and reporting to ensure organisational consistency and compliance. Advisory & Expertise – Provides authoritative advice, guidance, and thought leadership, maintaining expert-level knowledge in key specialisms. Tools & Measurement – Proficient in risk systems, tools, and data measurement techniques to support robust monitoring and reporting. Continuous Improvement – Reviews and enhances practices, tools, and methods to strengthen organisational risk maturity. Stakeholder Engagement – Builds strong relationships, executes engagement plans, and leverages feedback to align risk practices with business needs.
