Description:

The Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University is home to the Dispute Resolution Research Center (DRRC), a globally recognized center for research on conflict, dispute resolution, and negotiation. The DRRC is led by a Kellogg Faculty Director and Executive Director to execute Kellogg’s commitment to the research and teaching mission for the international conflict management community. The center fosters an interdisciplinary dialogue that bridges research with real-world applications by pioneering a team-based, experiential learning method, establishing the center as the global authority in negotiation education. The DRRC provides continuing education programs and distributes teaching materials to academic instructors and consultants.
Reporting to the Faculty Director, The Senior Manager, Case Writing, is a key member of the Dispute Resolution Research Center (DRRC). The Senior Manager is primarily responsible for supporting and advancing the development, dissemination, and effective use of high-quality teaching materials created by the DRRC, while improving their accessibility. This work includes but not limited to, improving the quality and expanding the quantity of DRRC’s teaching materials offerings, taking a leading role in marketing efforts, running training sessions to help potential academic instructors learn to teach and develop DRRC teaching materials, and implementing initiatives to improve the accessibility of these materials for customers. This role requires someone who will be dedicated to the initiatives of the DRRC to help maintain the center’s reputation as a global leader in dispute resolution education.
Specific Responsibilities:

Teaching Materials Development and Writing

  • Update existing teaching materials (e.g., exercises, cases, and online simulations) and develop new ones in collaboration with DRRC staff and under the supervision of faculty members affiliated with the DRRC.
  • Write new exercises, cases, and online simulations, involving tasks such as ideation, conducting research, interviews, drafting content, developing teaching notes (instructor manuals), and classroom testing.
  • Assist faculty in writing and completing research related to new teaching materials.
  • Contribute to the creation of teaching notes that provide instructors with key learning objectives and detailed lesson plans (including supporting research).
  • Evaluate teaching materials submitted for publication by external authors and address related queries, such as updating outdated content or resolving issues like typos in exercises or inaccuracies in mathematical calculations.

Training

  • Develop and host webinars for both current and new teaching materials and organize training sessions to instruct individuals on how to effectively use DRRC teaching materials to enhance the adoption and effective use of DRRC content.
  • Lead training sessions or webinars for faculty on creating new teaching materials.,
  • Implement initiatives such as optimizing keyword searches on the website and developing engaging online materials to guide instructors to improve accessibility for customers

Content Development

  • Lead new content initiatives to ensure the DRRC remains innovative and competitive.
  • Explore technologies like AI, ChatGPT, and online simulations to create cutting-edge teaching materials while conducting competitive analysis to stay ahead of industry trends to integrate content into the DRRC’s e-commerce website and tailored for use in Kellogg MBA and executive education classes, enriching the curriculum and enhancing accessibility.

Outreach

  • Lead the marketing efforts by collaborating with DRRC staff and student workers to develop a comprehensive marketing plan and publicize teaching materials through social media, newsletters, and other communication channels.
  • Enhance the DRRC’s community and extend its reach by developing and managing special projects, such as the DRRC pedagogy competition, overseeing its design, execution, evaluation, and successful completion.
  • Manage alumni relations for teaching-related initiatives, fostering meaningful engagement and collaboration with DRRC alumni.
  • Partner with other DRRC staff members on projects that strengthen the DRRC community, including organizing events, building partnerships, and advancing initiatives aligned with the DRRC’s mission and impact in teaching and research.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree at minimum (advanced degree e.g., Masters, MBA or PhD a plus).
  • Proven competency as an engaging writer and editor (experience in business writing a plus).

  • Familiarity with and willingness to learn about and experiment with, new technologies, such as AI tools, online learning platforms, and other digital innovations relevant to education.
  • Familiarity with marketing principles and strategies, including experience with digital marketing tools, social media platforms, and communication channels to effectively promote educational materials and initiatives.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters, MBA or PhD (or other advanced degree).
  • Published case writer or science writer.
  • College-level teaching experience.
  • Experience in a business school and/or corporate environment.
  • Experience with adopting and leveraging new technologies, such as AI tools, online learning platforms, and other digital innovations relevant to education.
  • Ability to understand, evaluate, and translate scientific literature.

PREFERRED COMPETENCIES: (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES)

  • Strong understanding of the business/management education environment through work experience in academic publishing, business, academia, or management consulting.
  • Knowledge of instructional design.
  • Strong aptitude with spreadsheet software and/or programming skills to aid in the design of quantitatively based teaching materials.
  • Experience leveraging marketing tools for data-driven marketing strategies, such as analyzing engagement metrics or optimizing promotional efforts.
    Target hiring range for this position will be $74,000 - $89,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
