Your part in UnitingCare Hospitals
The Senior Manager of Clinical Coding and Documentation Improvement is responsible for leading the management, governance and functions of the clinical coding and clinical documentation improvement operations of the UnitingCare Health hospitals in order to deliver UnitingCare Health’s commitment to clinical and service excellence.
This role works collaboratively as a member of the Patient Revenue and Digital Health team and is accountable for ensuring the effective and efficient function of the UnitingCare Health clinical coding and clinical documentation improvement service initiatives and improving compliance to funding arrangements whilst optimizing revenue streams.
In addition to the core accountabilities, this position will also lead the development of software transformation that supports modernisation of clinical coding through implementation of Computer Assisted or AI coding.
Key Accountabilities

Clinical Coding and Documentation Improvement

  • Plan, organise, direct, and evaluate the operational and strategic management of all facets of Clinical Coding and Clinical Documentation Improvement functions for UCH Hospital ensuring available resources are used effectively.

Revenue Optimisation

  • Lead the UnitingCare Hospitals Revenue Optimisation strategy development and operationalise the strategy through effective management of coding and CDI resources, systems and processes.

Systems Management

  • Leverage technology to enhance VMO, CDI team and clinical coder workflows, creating efficiency to achieve accurate documentation, coding, and hospital revenue.

Clinical Care and Governance

  • Oversee the clinical coding review process to support accurate quality and safety and hospital performance reporting.

Leader of Self

  • Contribute to a positive team culture and a safe work environment, being mindful, respectful and kind.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Health Information Management or equivalent work experience
  • Eligibility for membership of the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA).
  • Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-AM clinical classification, casemix data reporting and DRG funding, or a combination of study and work experience.
  • High level analytical skills, and ability to analyse and understand complex health information, business processes and concepts.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and the capacity to successfully manage several tasks concurrently to meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and sound achievements in clinical coding performance outcomes.
  • Demonstrated excellence in coordinating all aspects of clinical coding services using strategic planning, management and evaluation skills to ensure available resources are used effectively.
