Position Summary The Senior Manager, Facilities, Engineering & Continuous Improvement oversees all aspects of facility maintenance, engineering, procurement, and continuous improvement for the Whittier Distribution Campus. This role ensures operational excellence, equipment reliability, and cost efficiency across a 3-building complex. The Senior Manager leads a diverse team—including maintenance, engineering, janitorial, and procurement staff—while fostering a culture of safety, innovation, and accountability. The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge with strategic thinking and people leadership, driving both day-to-day execution and long-term improvement initiatives aligned with business objectives. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team of ~35 associates, including supervisors, maintenance mechanics, engineers, and janitorial staff. Establish performance standards, conduct regular coaching sessions, and promote professional growth and cross-training. Foster collaboration between Maintenance, Engineering, Procurement, and Operations to ensure facility reliability and efficiency. Facility & Equipment Management Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance for all mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and conveyor systems to ensure continuous operations. Ensure all facility systems (electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and safety) are compliant with company and regulatory standards. Manage the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), ensuring work orders, asset history, and preventive maintenance schedules are optimized and up to date. Coordinate capital projects, renovations, and retrofits across the distribution center campus. Continuous Improvement & Engineering Lead Lean and Six Sigma–based continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime, optimize workflows, and enhance equipment performance. Partner with Operations to identify process bottlenecks and implement automation or engineering solutions that improve productivity and safety. Develop metrics and dashboards to track reliability, cost savings, and efficiency improvements. Champion innovation through technology adoption, energy efficiency, and sustainability projects. Procurement & Budget Management Manage procurement of maintenance parts, equipment, and services, ensuring cost-effectiveness and vendor performance. Lead vendor selection and negotiation for facility-related contracts (equipment, janitorial, utilities, etc.). Develop and manage departmental budgets, forecasting expenditures for labor, materials, and capital projects. Identify opportunities for cost savings through process optimization, supplier partnerships, and preventive asset care. Safety & Compliance Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with OSHA, environmental, and facility safety regulations. Collaborate with the Safety team to ensure audits, inspections, and corrective actions are executed effectively. Support emergency preparedness and business continuity plans for the facility. You’ll need to have: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field. Minimum 7–10 years of experience in distribution center or manufacturing maintenance, with 5+ years in leadership. Experience managing cross-functional teams (Engineering, Maintenance, Procurement, CI). Certified Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt preferred. Experience with budget management, vendor contracts, and lease administration. Demonstrated success in implementing automation or digital transformation projects. Very good knowledge of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. In-depth experience with conveyor systems and automated warehouse technologies (PLC/MDR/Accumulation/Inline Scales/High-Speed Sortation). Proven project management and organizational skills, capable of leading multiple initiatives simultaneously. Experience with CMMS administration and data-driven decision-making. Ability to read blueprints, electrical schematics, and mechanical diagrams. Very good analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills with a continuous improvement mindset. Written and verbal communication skills, comfortable engaging with all levels of the organization.
