Position Overview: The incumbent in this role will work as a strategic partner to the Vice President of Finance & CFO. S/he, will manage all corporate and statutory responsibilities, in coordinating with finance teams across different countries to ensure smooth operations. The role also includes assessing business and financial matters and supporting the development of strategies and new revenue opportunities for AKU. Responsibilities: Key Responsibilities: 1. Establishing & maintaining a strong network: Develop and manage internal external relationships. Research, plan and implement new target market initiatives, set goals, and develop plans for the Finance team Conduct analysis, interpret financial statements and business proposals. Develop robust financial models and related information as required, in line with the best practices. Provide active support in developing: board papers/ presentations and business plans. Govern information of various projects and project monitoring mechanisms. Coordinate with relevant finance teams to ensure timely production of quality reports, ensuring that all deadlines and other tasks are completed in a timely manner. Assist in developing business development strategy and its implementation 2. Communication & Coordination: Excellent at coordination with entity heads, deans, directors, and others within and outside of AKU and has excellent project management skills. Excellent comprehension, spoken, written skills and doing data analysis and preparation of presentations. 3. Planning and prioritizing projects and plans: Support in development of departmental goals and objectives, help devise goals’ monitoring mechanism and thereafter recommending corrective actions. Timely submission of reports and preparation of departmental and board presentations for onward submission. Develop requisite summary of board papers for the review of senior management and VP Finance & CFO. 4. Tracking all the projects, proposals, and objectives & reviewing of grant agreements and donor agreements: Engage regularly with relevant finance teams to execute projects and ensure timely completion. Assist in developing financing strategy for major projects, not restricted to capital structuring, funding arrangements, etc. 5. Strategic Advisory and Planning: Serve as a trusted advisor to the VP of Finance & CFO on strategic, financial, and operational matters. Assist in the development, monitoring, and execution of goals. Provide insights and recommendations based on data analysis and research. 6. Operational Management: Oversee day-to-day operations of the Office of the VP Finance & CFO, ensuring seamless coordination across teams and functions. Lead and manage cross-departmental projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Monitor progress of key initiatives, resolving bottlenecks and ensuring timely delivery. 7. Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a liaison between the VP Finance & CFO and internal/external stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration. Prepare and review presentations, reports, and briefing materials for meetings and engagements. Represent the VP Finance & CFO in meetings, as and when required. Collaborate with cross functional teams to implement cost saving and automation initiatives. 8. Governance and Compliance: Support governance processes by preparing agendas, tracking action items, and ensuring follow-up on key decisions. Ensure compliance with financial policies, regulations, and standards across all jurisdictions in which AKU operates. 9. Leadership Support: Serve as a point of contact for the leadership team, addressing inquiries and facilitating resolutions on behalf of the VP Finance & CFO. Build relationships across departments to promote collaboration and shared success. 10. Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements within the Office of the VP Finance & CFO. Foster a culture of innovation and operational excellence. Requirements: Education: Master’s degree or equivalent, in Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field Experience: Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience. including senior management or advisory roles. Skills: Excellent at carrying out data analysis and synthesizing information. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Has the ability to maintain a sense of confidentiality, with the ability to work in a cross-institutionalized multi-cultural environment. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with various levels of management, staff, and clients. Experience in developing and writing proposals/presentations, coordinating multiple inputs from a variety of sources. Experience in managing relationships. Strong organization and project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work under pressure. Ability to communicate status of projects to appropriate staff or board members. Able to communicate the organization’s vision and mission to external audiences. Facilitate review of board papers.
