The Global Strategy, Operations & Performance (GSOP) team serves as a Center of Excellence within Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) focusing on enterprise-level strategy, performance management, and operational delivery. We're a fast-moving, high-impact team tackling the company’s most important priorities. We are looking for a Senior Manager to join our GMNS Strategy team to help tackle the top priorities in our strategic agenda. This role blends deep strategic thinking with hands-on delivery. You’ll tackle key enterprise initiatives, conduct complex analyses and research, develop long-term growth strategies, and collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders through high-visibility projects. The position offers substantial exposure to senior leadership and is ideal for candidates with a strong consulting background, is passionate about the payments industry and demonstrates a high level of ownership and attention to detail. How will you make an impact in this role? Shape the Strategy: Lead and own discrete initiatives to support GMNS’s long-term strategic priorities — bringing structure to ambiguity, generating insights from complex data, and synthesizing market dynamics into actionable plans Strategic Analyses: Conduct complex quantitative and qualitative analyses, industry research, and benchmarking to evaluate strategic and inorganic opportunities, including potential partnerships, investments, or business model shifts. Insights & Storytelling: Prepare visual content & presentations to share insights and support recommendations in an effective way with senior leadership. Stakeholder Relationships: Collaborate with stakeholders across GMNS, Finance, Marketing, Digital, Risk, and other enterprise partners, to influence the strategy development, including framing issues, guiding decisions, and assisting in developing executive-level presentations for the CEO, ELT, and Board Build Relationships Across the Blue Box: Develop credibility across the enterprise, influencing stakeholders, facilitating alignment, and ensuring smooth execution of strategic programs. Minimum Qualifications 3+ years of professional experience in strategy, payments, financial services, or fintech Experience in driving large-scale strategy projects with executive-level visibility Strong project management skills, including prioritization, work planning, execution discipline Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex & unstructured issues and data into clear, actionable insights Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in developing and delivering presentations to senior audiences Strong stakeholder management, collaboration and influencing skills in a highly matrixed environment Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable managing multiple priorities simultaneously and autonomously Overall intellectual curiosity and interest in developments in the payments industry Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business or related field strongly preferred Experience in management consulting or corporate strategy strongly preferred Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the UK is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
