Responsibilities

The Internal Controls Compliance (ICC) team is an assurance function that supports the business and management in ensuring appropriate and effective internal controls are in place to prevent or detect fraud or error in quarterly and annual financial statements (ICFR – Internal Controls over Financial Reporting) and ESG reporting (ICSR – Internal Controls over Sustainability Reporting).
As Senior Manager, you will report to the Senior Director, Financial Reporting and Internal Controls. You will play a key role in supporting the annual internal controls testing program for both GWL and Choice Properties REIT, with autonomy to design the annual testing plan in alignment with National Instrument (NI) 52-109 regulations.
You will lead a team of 2–3 dedicated ICC professionals, overseeing the testing of approximately 300 controls—split roughly evenly between the two businesses. This role offers exposure to a wide range of business processes and the opportunity to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels across the GWL Corporate Centre and Choice Properties. You’ll be joining a close-knit team and working in a dynamic, challenging environment that fosters continuous learning.

The Senior Manager, Internal Controls Compliance, will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the businesses in identifying and implementing process and control improvements.
  • Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of 2–3 ICC colleagues.
  • Ensuring compliance with auditing and accounting standards to maintain professional integrity and mitigate risks in the execution of key controls across both businesses.
  • Building strong working relationships with all levels of management to identify key risks and ensure appropriate controls are in place and effectively mitigated.
  • Developing and maintaining efficient and effective testing procedures to evaluate the design and operational effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Assessing the completeness and accuracy of supporting evidence for control execution.
  • Collaborating with process owners to develop remediation plans for identified issues, monitoring progress, and validating completion by the established due dates.
  • Supporting ad hoc projects and initiatives as required by the businesses.
