REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree qualification in a numerical degree (such as engineering, commerce, data science)
  • Previous experience in quantitative analysis in the National Electricity Market
  • Understanding of at-risk type analysis for opportunity evaluation
  • Highly numerical with advanced modelling skills
  • Passion for improving existing processes and the ability to challenge current thinking
  • Clear communicator including at very senior level
  • Must be available for interstate and possible overseas travel as required
    The focus of the role will be optimisation of the Australian assets however there is an expectation that the Senior Manager will work closely with experts across different offices (Japan and the UK) as well as supporting new markets. This means there will be occasional out of hours calls and meetings.
    Short to mid-term job targets (3, 6 and 12 month)

3 month targets:

  • Risk evaluation of standard derivative products applicable to BESS (caps, swaps, peaks)
  • Full evaluation of current BESS revenue forecasting tools (particularly P50 and methodology for high/low revenue cases)

6 month targets:

  • Implementation of risk pricing (at-risk or similar) for deal and project evaluation
  • BESS revenue forecasting strategy for Japan (with particular emphasis on the balancing market)
  • Target list of preferred projects by region over a rolling 5-year period to be agreed with the Australian Leadership Team on at least an annual basis
  • Implementation & ongoing maintenance of internal databasing tool (Snowflake) for market and asset data

12 month targets:

  • Revenue reporting on value of real options on existing & future sites in NEM
  • Quantification of portfolio value under different project and contract structures
  • Understanding and articulation of value of hedges including alternative hedge products as it relates to investment (both financing and future sell down value)
Responsibilities

INTRODUCTION TO THE ROLE

The Senior Manager, Market Analytics will be responsible for the market analysis underpinning the investment and contracting strategy of the Asia Pacific business. The analysis produced will underpin business decisions in Australia and New Zealand, supporting revenue contracting and asset investment opportunities. The role will support Eku’s Japanese business and inform future expansion opportunities across the Asia Pacific region.
The role will lead the analytics team in producing and communicating future market movements and trends. They will be responsible for Eku’s internal analytics capability as well as maintaining relationships with external consultants, utilising both to assess future risk and opportunities for the business. The market analytics will span both the spot market as well as forward traded products and an understanding of both dynamics will be key to success in this role.
The role would suit a person with significant quantitative experience in the National Electricity Market who enjoys taking on a challenge and is comfortable with both modelling and communication.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE

  • Working with external experts to provide market-leading revenue outlooks and guidance on future revenue opportunities
  • Working with internal stakeholders to determine the optimal mix of contracts for existing and future projects
  • Driving the risk and return discussions for existing and future projects through quantitative modelling and robust market analytics
  • Leading a small internal team and working closely with the rest of the Trading teams both in Australia and overseas
