POSITION SUMMARY:

Bio-Techne is seeking a highly motivated and creative Mechanical Engineering Senior Manager to lead and architect the mechanical design of analytical instruments from concepts to final products. This position will report into the hardware development team working with a group of curious, innovative, and supportive engineers and scientists. This is a unique opportunity to lead a seasoned group and impact the organization by ensuring the successful mechanical design and delivery of new and existing products. The team is a collaborative group, and the manager will empower the team to innovate. This position will focus on all mechanical engineering activities from concept to production.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A degree in engineering, physics, or other related disciplines is required.
  • 20+ years of intensive work experience in mechanical and system design
  • Strong Solidworks background, familiar with PDM and PLM systems
  • Expert with SolidWorks and PDM
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Experience with designing complex analytical instruments/systems and consumables
  • Microfluidic design knowledge is desired.
Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be responsible for all mechanical design deliverables.
  • Lead a team of staff-level mechanical engineers (25+ years of experience).
  • Ensure designs meet requirements for performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Manage project timelines and resources to meet project goals as it relates to the mechanical team
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the mechanical engineering team.
  • Defining and establishing best practices and processes for the mechanical engineering team, while driving continuous improvement in these processes
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of engineering documentation, PDM vault, mechanical drawings, and BOMs
  • Contribute to design reviews and system level problem-solving efforts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs.
  • Must have experience using system-level thinking to successfully design new products and strong technical skills to efficiently solve complicated problems
  • Must have expertise in precision mechanical design
  • Must have experience leading design of an opto-mechanical instrument with automation, optics/detection, and fluidics
  • Demonstrated bias for action to iterate and experiment with ideas to move concepts forward promptly
  • Experience optimizing design for manufacturability and actively involved in transfer to manufacturing; demonstrated good understanding of various manufacturing technology to achieve cost-effective designs and improvements for existing products
  • Experience guiding and innovating with peers across multiple disciplines to come up with practical designs and test plans
  • Ability to proactively volunteer and solicit constructive feedback with good intent
  • Hire and grow the team as needed
  • Bonus: Experience in the life sciences instrumentation industry
  • Bonus: Experience in capillary and/or microfluidic based consumable design
